All the hotel staff I encountered, including the security guards, the front desk, and the cleaning staff, were very friendly. I was also very grateful that the power was still out in my area when I checked out, so I left my child's breast milk at the hotel to prevent it from spoiling, and the staff allowed me to do so.

It was a pleasant stay at the Wing Hotel. I stayed at the Wing Hotel Kualanamu Airport on July 14, 2026, and checked out on July 15, 2026. The hotel is close to the airport, and there is a shuttle bus service, which is free to and from the airport. I happened to take the 7:30 AM WIB shuttle bus to the airport yesterday. The distance from the hotel to the airport is about 10 minutes. The hotel staff was also very good and friendly. The hotel room was quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. Next trip, I will stay at the Wing Hotel Kualanamu Airport again.

More about hotels in Tanjung Morawa

Tanjung Morawa: A Gateway to North Sumatra's Charms

For the discerning Filipino traveller seeking an Indonesian adventure beyond the usual tourist trails, Tanjung Morawa presents a compelling proposition. This region, situated in the vibrant province of North Sumatra, offers a unique blend of accessibility and local flavour, serving as a crucial gateway to the wider wonders of the island of Sumatra. Unlike the bustling metropolises or the well-trodden beaches of Bali, Tanjung Morawa provides a more authentic glimpse into Indonesian life, characterized by its proximity to major transportation hubs and its burgeoning local economy. It’s a place where the rhythm of daily life is palpable, offering a refreshing contrast to the familiar pace of Manila or Cebu.

The geographical spread of Tanjung Morawa itself hints at the diverse experiences awaiting visitors. From the immediate vicinity of the Kualanamu International Airport, which serves as the primary entry point, to the more tranquil outskirts and the developing commercial centres, the region offers a spectrum of environments. Areas like Batang Kuis provide a glimpse into more traditional communities, while Sibolangit offers a natural escape. Even within the core Tanjung Morawa area, one can find pockets of development alongside established local businesses, meaning that where you choose to base yourself can significantly shape your perception and enjoyment of the region.

From a value perspective, Tanjung Morawa stands out as an attractive destination for international travellers. With an average starting price of just ₱ 494.94 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.2 from over 5,291 reviews, it signals a destination that offers substantial experiences without demanding a premium price tag. For travellers from the United States, Europe, or India, this translates into an opportunity to stretch their travel budgets further, allowing for more exploration, dining, and perhaps even longer stays. This affordability, coupled with a generally positive guest sentiment, makes Tanjung Morawa a smart choice for those who value both experience and economy.

The accommodation landscape in Tanjung Morawa reflects its accessible nature, with options catering to various needs and budgets. Prominent establishments like CREW EXPRESS Hotel and Thong's Inn Hotel Kualanamu exemplify the quality and convenience available, often serving travellers who prioritize proximity to the airport or business facilities. These hotels, along with many others, are readily available to book through Traveloka, ensuring that securing your preferred lodging is a straightforward process. This accessibility to well-regarded accommodations is a key factor in making Tanjung Morawa a practical and appealing stopover or base for exploring North Sumatra.

Ultimately, Tanjung Morawa is a destination that appeals to a broad spectrum of international travellers. For American and European visitors, it offers a chance to delve into a less-commercialized part of Indonesia, providing cultural immersion and a taste of authentic local life. Indian travellers will find the region’s connectivity and relatively affordable offerings particularly appealing, with ample opportunities to explore diverse culinary scenes. While direct connections for African travellers might be less common, the region’s role as a transit hub and its value proposition make it a viable option for those venturing into Southeast Asia, offering a unique Indonesian experience.

Best Areas to Stay in Tanjung Morawa

Tanjung Morawa, while a region rather than a single city, presents a fascinating mosaic of neighbourhoods, each offering a distinct flavour and set of advantages for international visitors. Understanding these areas is key to crafting a memorable trip, as your chosen base will influence your daily experiences, from the ease of accessing local attractions to the type of atmosphere you’ll encounter. Whether you’re seeking proximity to the airport, a taste of local commerce, or a quieter retreat, Tanjung Morawa’s diverse districts ensure there’s a perfect fit for every traveller.

It’s a practical choice for those who want to be close to amenities and transportation links.

Within this central district, you'll find a concentration of hotels and guesthouses, making it a convenient spot to base yourself. The Suzuya Tanjung Morawa Mall serves as a focal point for shopping and dining, while nearby streets offer a glimpse into local commerce. This district provides a more authentic glimpse into Indonesian daily life, with local markets and residential areas dominating the landscape. It’s particularly suited for travellers who are keen on experiencing local culture away from the main tourist crowds, perhaps appealing to European visitors seeking a more grounded travel experience. These establishments provide a more immersive experience in nature. While dining options might be more limited to hotel restaurants or local warungs, the focus here is on the natural beauty and outdoor pursuits. Access from Kualanamu International Airport involves a longer drive, but the journey itself can be scenic. It's a perfect base for exploring nearby natural attractions and enjoying a peaceful retreat.

This area is defined by its direct connection to Kualanamu International Airport (KNO), making it exceptionally convenient for travellers with early morning departures, late-night arrivals, or those on short layovers. They often provide airport shuttle services, express check-in/out, and business facilities. Dining options are typically within the hotels or at nearby airport facilities. For Muslim travellers, Indonesia, including Tanjung Morawa, is generally a very accommodating destination. Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Tanjung Morawa

Navigating Local Customs and Ensuring Safety

Understanding and respecting local customs is paramount for a smooth and enriching travel experience in Tanjung Morawa. Indonesian culture, while diverse, generally emphasizes politeness, respect, and a gentle approach to social interactions. Visitors are advised to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or more traditional areas, covering shoulders and knees. A friendly demeanor and a willingness to engage respectfully will be greatly appreciated by the local population, fostering positive interactions and a deeper connection with the community.

When visiting landmarks like the Suzuya Tanjung Morawa Mall or the Al-Mirah mosque, specific etiquette should be observed. At the mall, general courtesy and respect for personal space are expected. For Al-Mirah, as a place of worship, visitors should dress very modestly, and women may be required to cover their heads. It's always wise to inquire about photography rules before taking pictures, particularly in religious or sensitive locations. Observing how locals behave and following their lead is a good general practice.

Safety in Tanjung Morawa is generally good, with petty crime being relatively low. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or markets. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around. It's advisable to use official taxis or reputable ride-sharing services rather than hailing random vehicles.

In case of emergencies, the local police can be contacted via emergency numbers. For Filipino travellers, it's always prudent to know the location of the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia, which can provide assistance in critical situations. While Tanjung Morawa itself may not have a dedicated tourist police force, general law enforcement is available. Considering travel insurance is also highly recommended for all international trips, providing a safety net for unexpected medical needs or other travel disruptions.
