- Family vacation
Friendly and helpful staff. Convenient room although very small size. Foods were "okay" with very limited options. Many good and authentic (Malay, Middle-Eastern, Medditerinan, India and so on) restaurants at the walking distance locations. Will recommend this hotel to my family and friends.
- Business travel
Excellent service ! the room was very cozy too.
- Family vacation
clean and nice service in a good location
No shower jet next to closet so it's hard for me to wash after defecate
- Shopping & Culinary
I enjoyed my stay at The Sultan, loved the location, which is in my favourite neighbourhood. Our room was very compact, but fine for two people. Rain showers were fantastic, bed was comfy, the staff were exceedingly helpful and there were nice touches like the Handy phone and free minibar. My only gripe was that the WiFi was bad in the room.
- Family vacation
I arrived at 12pm and early check in approved by humble staff. got a very cozy room. nice compliment (smartphone unlimited data and local phone). near masjid sultan, and haji lane. easy to find delicious halal food. need improvement for breakfast taste. surely want to comeback.
- Backpacking
A very strategic location hotel (near masjid/ mosque, shopping location, halal culinary, etc), with extraordinary hospitality (especially for the receptionist/ front desk and the restaurant staff) and cool amenities (free minibar, free handy smartphone that could be used for free local and international call, browsing, maps, etc, although couldn't be used for tethering and whatsapp). It would be perfect if the hotel could serve more variative breakfast menu (especially Indonesian menu with spicy taste), enhancing room soundproof (because all of the sound from outside were clearly audible, not so good if we want to sleep quietly), and cleanliness of the room (dust in the wood cupboard and trace in the bed sheet).
- Family vacation
Nice place, good services, clean and delicious breakfast
- Family vacation
Perfect hotel for family holiday.
- Business travel
Arrived in Singapore around midnight and was really pleased that the whole check-in process was quick and painless. was initially a bit worried about the noise coming from the club behind reception, but we were shown a room on a separate building behind the main one so there was absolutely no problem. the room was exactly how it looked like on the picture: clean, compact, and functional. hot water on the shower runs perfectly, bed was comfy, and the complimentary breakfast suited me just fine (although pretty basic, they have granola with fresh fruits and yoghurt which is awesome!)

Nice hotel
It's nice and clean hotel. They upgraded our room and it was great. The room is small but it has all you need. Shower is large and very clean. The bed is very comfortable but it makes noise a little. The location of this hotel is great. It's 10 min to little India and garden by the bay. I do not recommend this hotel for woman who are traveling solo because the elevator is completely outside of the lobby and anyone can go upstairs without a room key.

Nice Hotel
We stayed at The Sultan for a 1 night stay. As we arrived in Singapore from Perth at 3am. So we just wanted a place to have a few hours sleep and a nice shower after our flight. The check-in was quick and we were shown to our room. We only booked a basic room. It was a little bit small. But the bathroom was bigger than I thought it was going to be. Plus we had a free breakfast in the morning when we woke, which was really nice. The location of this hotel was wonderful and all the staff were all very nice. I would use this hotel again if I needed another overnight stay.

F1 weekend stay
Stayed here over the F1 weekend due to its close location to the track and the area our tickets were for. Could not fault the hotel, the staff were friendly, the skylight room we had was clean and quiet. The hotel is in a great location and has great character.

Charming boutique hotel in the perfect location
I have been travelling to Singapore every month since May this year, after semi-relocating to Australia after 21 years of living here. Coming back was always going to stir mixed feelings – nostalgia, regret, homesickness (for my new home). I chose The Sultan on the basis of its charming whitewashed simplicity, heritage character, affordability and most of all, its location. I am so happy that I chose this elegant yet cosy little establishment to be my 'home away from home', as it suits my needs perfectly. As I am here to work, I do not require a gym, swimming pool or fancy 5-star facilities. The Internet connection never fails, the rooms are spotless (housekeeping staff are especially gracious and accommodating), and the breakfast, served in the cafe adjoining the lobby, is more than ample. I am not a breakfast person, and usually opt for a piece of toast and 2 cups of the excellent coffee, making an exception only on those 2 or 3 days a week that they serve nasi lemak (delicious!) One person who never fails to make my day is the gracious and good-natured gentleman, Isa, who serves guests breakfast most mornings and always makes me feel like a VIP. (Thank you, Isa.) I also really appreciate the cheerful front-of-house staff who wish me good morning, every morning. I am about to check out after a marathon 24-day stay, and will be returning in under a month. I recommend this hotel to both business and leisure travellers. Kampong Glam is one of the most vibrant cultural enclaves in Singapore, and smack-bang in the middle of almost everywhere. Bugis MRT is a 5-minute walk away, and there is a taxi stand across the road outside the Textile Centre. The call to prayer that sounds out from the nearby Sultan Mosque and wafts through my shuttered window has become a part of my favourite soundtrack... the fat, lazy cats that 'guard' the hotel are friendly (especially the big black guy whom I've dubbed 'The Panther')... the food in every direction is 'cheap and good', as the locals say. Really, I cannot think of anything bad to say about this lovely little hotel.

So so noisy!
I wasn't going to write this review because when I emailed about my issues they were very nice in coming back to me and telling me that they'll move to resolve them and offered me a discount code for my next stay. I then however say that people have been complaining about the same things for 5 years and clearly nothing has been done at all. The good: The hotel is incredibly well located, at the fringe of Kampong Glam and within short walk of Haji Lane and other attractions. The desk staff were very friendly and check-in was easy. They offer free use of a Handy device to use out and about in Singapore, which is an amazing touch. The bad: The room on the ground floor was musty and dark, and too small for two adults. We had to climb over each other to get into bed and there was not enough floor space for two suitcases. There was a smell of stale cigarettes on the sheets along with a general mustiness. There is an in-hotel bar upstairs and you can hear the bass thumping until three in the morning, which destroyed my sleep. Why you would have this in a heritage building with old walls is beyond me, but the worst part is the patrons coming out of the bar into the hotel after 3am and screaming/laughing/smoking in the halls. This happened both nights of our stay and the second night I was fed up and got up at 3:30am to tell a screaming woman to shut up, which is out of character for me. I so badly wanted to love this hotel but unfortunately until it does something about the smell and the noise it's not up to standard.
