I reserved and paid for a City View room with 2 double beds for myself, my daughter and my mother (who was celebrating her 70th birthday). When we arrived, we were given a very small room with frosted windows. I was curious as to why the windows were frosted, so I opened them to discover that we were facing the hotel’s loading dock and parking lot. Then the constant sound of trucks beeping and crates slamming began. I went to speak to the lady at the front desk, and was told that our room was in fact a City View room, and that there was nothing else available for the first night, but that we would be able to get a different room for the following two nights. Not ideal, but anything would be better than what we were originally given.
The new room was also a City View room, but had 2 queen beds, and a sitting area, which was nice. However, the hotel is old, and so the bathrooms are very tight, and things like faucets and drains either don’t work well, or not at all. The room was also not the cleanest. Dusty and the carpets were dirty. My daughter’s socks were black after walking around on the floor for a couple of hours.
I have been a very loyal client of Fairmont Hotels for many years, but am losing my love for the brand. I have found that Fairmont is riding on the coattails of their history and previous success, and not delivering service to maintain that success. I have found this to be the case at The Empress, and the Jasper Park Lodge.
Would not stay here again.
