A great welcoming on arrival staff very polite.
Reception very clean and well organised. Hotel its self is very beautiful the room was very good clean and tidy will definitely go there again .
York it self is great.

Lovely hotel, very well maintained in its original style. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Good choice of bar/eating areas and places to relax.
Room heating was a bit baffling and so it was a bit too warm!

We stayed here for 2 nights, it was our first visit to The Milner and we have had a wonderful stay. The hotel is beautiful as was our room. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. We will definitely be returning.

Good:
The hotel is well located and impressive in its public areas.
All the staff are friendly and polite
The breakfast is very good
Not so good:
The room itself was not too impressive. The room was stuffy, safe didn’t work, and the shower was a trickle.
Overall location 10 out of 10 so if you are out and about exploring York all day and arriving/departing by train it would be good choice. If you want to relax in your room then I would recommend a different room category or another hotel.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The lounge and common areas are stunning.
Unfortunately the hotel falls down in staff attentiveness and our room was a bit tired with wear and tear.
It was very evident that the hotel are short staffed. Waiting at reception to check in. Long wait in lounge for drinks, only one person on duty so when he was off preparing drinks there was no one around.
We had a family occasion in one of the function and pretty much had to serve ourselves. Even the manager we spoke to admitted they were short of staff.
Breakfast was great with lots of staff topping up the buffet and keeping it tidy.
A pleasant stay but let down by lack of staff.

Location for the city centre is good, hence 4 stars. Front desk staff were helpful, restaurant food and service were good. Room in The Sidings was not great - noisy and smelt of sewage. The hotel shares a public car park; we couldn't find a space when we arrived.

The room was quite dark with not a lot of bright lights in the room or sunlight due to the location.
We stayed for a 2 night special break with my 80 year old mum, unfortunately on one day from 10.30-4pm they turned the water off which meant if we wanted a shower or the toilet etc we would need to go to a different building.
This was planned work and had we have known before booking we would have chosen a different hotel.
I understand work needs to be done for the upkeep of the building but like I mentioned above, I would have booked a different hotel.
I did inform the reception but all we received was an apology.
I do feel they should not have changed the full amount for this night.

The air conditioning didn’t work. We reported this and nothing was done during our stay. The bed was very small for 2 people and we are not large. The star are friendly but not particularly helpful. The room we had was very tired and not worth the money. The water barely trickled out of the taps in the en-suite.
