Good: The hotel is well located and impressive in its public areas. All the staff are friendly and polite The breakfast is very good Not so good: The room itself was not too impressive. The room was stuffy, safe didn’t work, and the shower was a trickle. Overall location 10 out of 10 so if you are out and about exploring York all day and arriving/departing by train it would be good choice. If you want to relax in your room then I would recommend a different room category or another hotel.

Only negative is accessibility, steps at main entrance and no indication of an accessible way in. Small flight up to room with no handrail. Travelled with 88yr old and just little things but make huge difference.

Kamer was te basic voor deze prijs. Hebben zelfs de eerste kamer gewisseld omdat het raam niet eens open kon. Tweede kamer was iets ruimer maar geen ventilatie in de badkamer en echt te basic voor woorden. Daar bij moet je door een corridor waar de vuile vaat van de avond ervoor nog staat. Waar dronken mensen door de gangen dwalen die de feestruimte niet meer kunnen vinden na toiletbezoek. Waar het tapijt eruit ziet alsof het er al 100 jaar ligt met alle gevolgen van dien etc. Vriendelijks waren de mensen bij de receptie en de schoonmakers. Bar personeel zwaar onder de maat. Ongeïnteresseerd en onvriendelijk. Foto’s ogen geweldig en wellicht dat de kamers in het hoofdgebouw beter zijn maar voor deze prijzen per nacht verwacht ik veel beter. Wel gemakkelijk naast station en dichtbij het centrum.

Building is lovely, room was ok. We had a mouldy kettle in the room which wasn’t great. Housekeeping bought another but that wasn’t clean either

Room was clean. Staff were pleasant.Good parking facilities.

The room was a good size but disappointing. Lacked a character, charm or warmth which I’d expected when booking a beautiful old hotel. The room was disconnected from the main building, passing lots of stained carpets and drunk party goers. The bar staff were low on numbers and we waited a while to be served. Location was good. Managed to park at the hotel. Shame the parking fee is high for onsite. All in all, sadly wouldn’t return to this hotel.

The room was lovely, only areas for improvement is that it could have been slightly cleaner and water pressure in the shower wasn’t great.

The room was supposed to be a deluxe. It was not compared to other hotels we have stopped in . It was a cold room . A lady came to help with the controls , it stayed cold then maintenance came no better. These were two nice people not their fault. I am pretty sure the heating was either faulty or inadequate. We were offered heaters for the room - but it’s not what you really want . It stayed cold - we only were there for one night so we did not make a fuss. However if we return to York it won’t be at the Milner.

Great room

The public rooms are exceptional and were beautifully decorated for Christmas. Our room was clean and tidy but the furniture is dated and a bit odd, with the kettle and cups in a cupboard which meant that we had to take the kettle out of the cupboard and plug it in by the bed. The bathroom seemed recently fitted with a good sized shower. We had breakfast at the hotel my husband enjoyed the range of cooked options.

Overall the stay I would say was good the staff were very obliging and were willing to help whenever asked

The room was in an annexe that was reached by a corridor which contained a bucket collecting water and wet patches on the floor. The room was a good size but there was no chest of drawers for clothes. The sink had cold water with very low pressure and dangerously hot , hot water. I feel that the stay did not represent good value for money given the high price charged

Expected parking at hotel to be good. Not only were there no parking spaces available and we had to park on what can only be described as a muddy path - we had to pay £20.00 for the pleasure. Car didn’t seem safe - spoke to hotel staff who said later in the day there should be spaces as people were checking out. It did in fact get worse.

Clean room, nice staff

The hotel is beautiful in its communal areas, but the rooms themselves left a lot to be desired. Although it’s an older property, the layout and room descriptions are confusing. Calling a very small bedroom a “king-size room” simply because it contains a king-size bed doesn’t make sense. We had to move rooms multiple times, and each time there was a new issue. In our final room, the temperature was unbearably hot and the air conditioning wouldn’t work at all. On top of that, the sink wouldn’t drain properly, and we had to force the plug out just to let the water escape. For £300 a night, it’s quite outrageous to experience problems like these. I genuinely feel like I’ve had money taken from me considering the quality of the stay. Overall, while the shared spaces are lovely, the room experience was consistently disappointing.

We stayed at the Milner about 4 years ago it was great but it has gone downhill considerably since our last visit. We managed to get a table for an evening meal on our first evening. We were lucky we got our meal at the same time so we ate together i watched other tables where one person got food and had finished by the time the other meal came up. Parking is £20 a day which you have to pay but there are only 60 spaces and we couldn't park. I am disabled and there were 3 cars in the bays with no blue badge. The reception said they had no way to monitor that. I think the carpark should be monitored as people parking and walking into york park for free. But we had to pay the £20 and can't park there because spaces are limited. They take your car registration number and should of informed the guests parked in the disabled spaces that did not have a badge. Prople also park in the carpark and walk into York could parking there for free. Parking tickets should be given to non residents. I was shocked when the receptionist said we rely on peoples good manors not to park in the disabled spaces that do not have a blue badge !! We didn't know about parking charges until we left and it was on our bill. We ordered an irish coffee in the lounge after dinner and it was really not up to much. They were £20 and not up to much I was disappointed as the weekend was a present. The positive is that it is in walking distance of York and we walked to the shops and market.

The room was very dated and the air conditioning/heating a real issue, the bar staff in the main bar refused to make any cocktails as they said they never had enough staff.!!! The bar manager and staff in the garden room really need to learn some manners and how to have some interaction with customers.!
