Moreover, Hong Kong Airlines has also obtained other prestigious awards such as HKIA Airport Safety Recognition Scheme Awards in 2015 and Capital Weekly Service Awards 2012 for Best Service in Aviation. Hong Kong Airlines carries the slogan βFlying Beyondβ, which embodies two meanings. First, the slogan highlights Hong Kong Airlinesβ dedication to all its passengers. For Hong Kong Airlines, to go beyond means to constantly exceeding customer expectations. Hong Kong Airlines will always go the extra mile and push beyond boundaries. This value supports Hong Kong Airlinesβ desire to deliver an amazing traveling experience and make every journey more enjoyable. Second, the slogan βFlying Beyondβ also refers to flying βbeyond the horizonβ. It is a metaphor for hope, progress, and a focus on the future. It embodies the youthful energy that moves Hong Kong Airlines forward as it keeps striving to expand their global coverage. One of the ways Hong Kong Airlines proves its dedication is by providing a 20 kg baggage allowance for its Economy Class passengers and 30 kg baggage allowance for its Business Class passengers. However, Economy Class passengers traveling between Hong Kong and Southwest Pacific (Australia and New Zealand) or between Area Three and Southwest Pacific via Hong Kong are entitled to a 30 kg of baggage allowance, while Business Class passengers will get 40 kg of baggage allowance. In addition, each Economy Class passenger is also allowed to carry one piece of cabin baggage, which must not exceed 45 inches (56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm) in size and 7 kg in weight. This requirement also applies to the Business Class passengers, but they are allowed to carry two pieces of cabin baggage. To reward its loyal passengers, Hong Kong Airlines offers a frequent flyer program called Fortune Wings Club. There are five different membership tier levels in Fortune Wings Club, which are Fortune Wings Member Standard, Select, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. These check-in stations are open daily, from 5:30 AM to 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time of last flight of the day.
The journey of Hong Kong Airlines began when a man named Robert Yip, the chairman of China Rich Holdings, established CR Airways in Hong Kong in March 2001. The airline received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department in early 2002. In 2003, CR Airways became Hong Kongβs third passenger airline after receiving a revised AOC from the Director of Civil Aviation and operated its first passenger flight on the next day. Four years later, in 2006, a man named Mr. Mung Kin Keung acquired 55% of the airlineβs share and thus became the controlling shareholder. Along with this acquisition, CR Airways officially changed its name to Hong Kong Airlines. The airline introduced a new logo, which represents a bauhinia flower, the symbol of Hong Kong where the airline is based. The new logo also represents the close relationship between the airline and Hong Kong, marking a new era in the civil aviation industry. In 2011, Hong Kong Airlines successfully increased its passenger traffic to 2.5 million with a total of 25 destinations. Hong Kong Airlines also introduced its first Airbus A320 passenger aircraft, which made the number of its operating fleet to reach 20 aircraft. Finally, in 2013, Hong Kong Airlines replaced all their Boeing aircraft with Airbus fleets. The airline also launched a new flight route between Hong Kong and Maldives, as well as exceeded four million passenger traffic. Other new flight routes were launched in 2014, which are between Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City, Tianjin, and Kagoshima. Due to its high demand, Hong Kong Airlines decided to increase its flights to Beijing to four flights each day and five flights to Shanghai each day. The year 2013 also became a big milestone, when Hong Kong Airlines aired a TV commercial βBringing the Best Sky Highβ. Under the brand positioning of βFresh and Very Hong Kongβ, the new TV commercial showed flight attendants practicing Wing Chun, gymnastics, and cycling respectively following Rose Chan (The Aviation Service Ambassador), Teng Haibin and Zhang Nan (The Olympic Champions), and Kenji Leung (The Cycling Coach). The TV commercials aimed to showcase the image of Hong Kong Airlines flight attendants. Besides airing the TV commercial, Hong Kong Airlines also became the aviation sponsor for the TV drama βTriumph in the Skies IIβ. With its progress and achievements, Hong Kong Airlines is determined to keep expanding its network. In 2015, the airline launched new routes to Miyazaki, Yancheng, and Nanchang, as well as increasing its flight frequencies to Bangkok and Nanjing. This year was also special because Hong Kong Airlines was awarded HKIA Airport Safety Recognition Scheme Awards. One year later, precisely in November 2016, Hong Kong Airlines commemorated its 10th anniversary with a grand celebration. The guest list ranged from government officials to business leaders. Hong Kong Airlines also used the anniversary to launch its next phase of growth and expansion with the theme of βFlying Beyondβ. The new phase includes further route expansion to current and new markets, fleet growth and expansion with the Airbus A350, as well as enhanced customer service, amenities, and facilities. Today, Hong Kong Airlines serves flights to 36 major cities across the Asia Pacific region, including Gold Coast, Auckland, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Sapporo, Seoul, Bangkok, Bali, and Okinawa. Hong Kong Airlinesβ fleet has also grown to 34 operating aircraft, consisting of nine of Airbus A330-300, nine Airbus A330-200, 11 Airbus A320, and five Airbus A330-200F for cargo. With up to date in-flight entertainment system installed on selected flights, Hong Kong Airlines strives to make the travel experience more enjoyable for its passengers.
