Samarkand International Airport (SKD) is Uzbekistan's second-busiest airport after Tashkent, sitting about 6 km north of central Samarkand. A new terminal, designed in the shape of an open book as a nod to astronomer Mirzo Ulugbek, spans 40,700 square metres with capacity for up to 2 million passengers a year.
