U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport is a smaller alternative gateway to Thailand's eastern seaboard, serving Pattaya and Rayong. Compare airlines flying in and out of U-Tapao (UTP) on Traveloka and set a Price Alert to track fares.
U-Tapao is a joint civil-military airport operated by the Royal Thai Navy, located in Ban Chang, Rayong province, around 30 km (about 45 minutes' drive) from central Pattaya. Despite the "International" in its name, current scheduled service is domestic only — it's a much smaller, quieter alternative to Bangkok's two main airports for travellers heading to the Pattaya/Rayong coast, with a second passenger terminal that opened in 2019.
Scheduled domestic flights currently link U-Tapao with Ko Samui and Phuket (Bangkok Airways) and Chiang Mai (Thai Lion Air). Bangkok Airways accounts for most departures here. Check current schedules before booking, as this is a smaller network than a major hub.
Bangkok Airways and Thai Lion Air are the only scheduled carriers. The airport is also used for charter flights and by the Royal Thai Navy.
U-Tapao has passenger terminal facilities including a second terminal added in 2019, with the usual basics — seating, dining and Wi-Fi — but nothing like the scale of Bangkok's major airports.
Most travellers use a taxi, pre-booked private transfer or hotel shuttle to reach Pattaya or Rayong, as there's no rail link. Verify current transfer options and fares before you travel.
