The Angel has a convenient location for exploring Cardiff. It feels like stepping into the opulence of yesteryear. The room itself was well appointed, albeit small. I booked a single room, and was surprised to have a double bed. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was prepared for the heat wave with a fan already placed in the room upon my arrival.

Overall good. Bed was comfortable and all clean. Need of some maintenance however- no curtain in bathroom so had to use shower in the dark so people couldn’t see in. Flickering light in room. Staff very friendly

The hotel is in a very good location. Right next to the stadium and a short walk to everything else. The hotel was ok. Staff were polite. Our room (224) was huge - plenty of room for a family of four. The beds were comfortable and clean. The room itself was generally clean, in the main traffic areas. However there were many other issues in the room and it is in desperate need of a renovation - repainted areas of the ceiling where there had obviously been leaks, thick dust on the net curtains, mouldy windows, flaky paint, peeling wall paper, dusty/mouldy vents, limited window openings and air flow, cracked grout and loose floor tiles right in front of the toilet, out of date fixtures, window right in front of the shower. If we were staying longer or there was other availability we would have asked to move rooms, however we were only staying for one night and the hotel was fully booked. Maybe we were unlucky and all the other rooms are ok. But sadly we wouldn’t return to this hotel for these reasons.

Very convenient for Principality Stadium, Cardiff Castle and the park, near to lots of bars and restaurants. However, the hotel was disappointing. The foyer and reception area looked shiny and well cared for, but when we got to our room it was very uncared for. It had a small, cracked and dirty window which wouldn't stay open, and the air-conditioning didn't work so we had to put up with a noisy fan blasting warm air at us. The bathroom looked okay at first, till we looked up and saw a dirty and dusty ceiling hatch. I asked to move rooms, but was told that the hotel was full and it wasn't possible. We had little to no sleep that night. The next morning we had booked breakfast. The dining room was very hot and airless, and the breakfast was poor. Overcooked eggs, greasy sausages and dried out bacon. I again asked reception to move us to another room and the young man there that day was extremely helpful and managed to organise a room change. This one was bigger and had a window which opened (we couldn't close it, but that didn't matter on this occasion!) The bar was open till late for residents, so that was a bonus. Although there were a few positives, overall we felt that the hotel is not good value for the very high prices. It is tired and in need of refurbishment. The cleanliness is below standard, with stained carpets, sweat- marked pillows, and cobwebs at every window.

Nice reception, but the rooms look tired. Lack of signage meant guessing where the rooms or the public toilets where. Whoever painted the rooms needs to go to Specsavers, who half paints over a light switch and doesn't clean it off. Cleaning was only okay. Overpriced hotels like this, in mediocre condition is why I usually go for the often cheaper hotel chains that maybe bland, but in better condition.

Made all the worse with dynamic pricing due to demand where we paid almost four hundred pounds for the room worth at most 75pounds Only positive is the location if visiting the principality stadium Absolutely not to be recommended unless desperate

The staff were lovely, the hotel you could tell was once beautiful in its hay day but although it's had a clean paint job it was in need of some tlc. Our room was big and clean but bizarrely the plugs in the main room didn't work if you turned the light off?? We did not mension this to the staff as it was late when we found out and other than not being able to charge our phone it wasn't really a problem. The main disappointment was for the price, the rooms did not offer air con and were very hot with just one fan provided for the three of us. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. We were going to a festival at the castle so it was fantastic in location. The overall experience was good, but expected more for what we paid. But again the reception staff, waiting staff and the cleaning crew where all really great !!!!

I don't like giving a bad review but for £220 it was a shockingly bad experience. Admittedly it was at the end of the heatwave and despite a fan working full blast every surface in the room was not warm but hot, only one window would open 4" max. The suite overlooked the inner yard with massive pipework and heating units with a huge steel chimney beside our window. My hairbrush was hot on the shelf in the bathroom the toilet seat was hot and there was no window or vent. I had to get up twice in the night for a cool shower. The drainage in the bathroom room was very slow. Breakfast the butter and spread had turned to oil, nothing to keep them cool. Staff had to be asked to refill the bacon, eggs, sausage and there was a 5 to 10min wait to refill. The coffee was the cheapest nastiest coffee. I'll end on a good note, the room was a good size, and the bed was very comfortable The reception, cleaning and bar staff were lovely

Extremely tired hotel. The staff were very friendly, can’t complain about that, but the building is in dyer need of a complete refurb. Dirty drinking glasses left in the bathroom, all carpets are stained and worn, the “lounge area” I’m not sure there was a leather chair in there with out a rip in it. All in all very disappointing.

This is the most deceptive marketing we have experienced on the Expedia app. The pictures of our room looked nothing like the dilapidated mess we were confronted with, including a peeling and rotting bath panel; excessive mold around the bath, ceiling and walls; a discolored mirror; carpet stains and a missing headboard. The hotel was great, lovely interior and very friendly and helpful staff. Only issue there was no car park although I saw there was meant to be. There was a sign to a car park for the hotel but it was closed off and we were informed to park across the road and pay £24 for overnight parking at the back of a stadium. Had a wonderful stay other wise.

I stopped in a single room. There was no air conditioning, no fridge. The hotel needs a refurbishment. It's not in very good condition. My room was 233 and it smelt strange. They did provide a fan for the room on the hottest day of the year. Location was good for the gig I attended. Breakfast was ok. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Awful! Please don’t book. The hotel is vastly different than advertised. The rooms look completely different, very poor quality, mould, dirty, tv didn’t work, no ac. It’s completely different to the pictures. When I complained to the manager he simply said “the pictures are a guide and not exact” although I have taken pictures and a comparison of the room vs the advertisement and it’s a massive different in calibre of room. Had the room been advertised truely I wouldn’t have booked it. Very rude staff and overall poor.

Having paid £230 per night (no breakfast), I was expecting a reasonably high-end experience. Nothing could be further from the truth. Firstly all the roads within 1KM of the hotel were closed for a music event. I drove around for about an hour trying to get close to the hotel, but had to park some distance away at a cost of £20 for a couple of hours and have to be back at 8am to pay more. When I arrived at the hotel I expressed my dissatisfaction that the hotel did not communicate this in advance. I was told by a rather surly receptionist that all the closures were on the Cardiff council website. Next time I travel to a hotel, I will be sure to check out the local council website in case there are road closures! Just a simple email from the hotel advising of road closures would have been all was needed. Once in the room, the temperature was unbearable. There was no air conditioning - just a fan. The temperature was 30 degrees. This meant a sleepless night. The room was very much past its prime - old fittings and furniture - a shower that was over a bath with a shower curtain and a shower head that fell off the wall. Coffee was sachets etc. At £230 a night surely a basic coffee machine... The paint work was crumbling and the flooring cheap laminate. A Premiere Inn would have been a much better choice and would have been far better value. The hotel management really need to have an overhaul of the offering. On checking out, not even a "How was your stay...."

It was exceptionally hot weather when we stayed. Windows cannot be opened. We were given a fan. It was unbearable, to the extent I would say, unsafe to stay overnight in the heat. Anyone with a room on that side of the hotel should have been offered a room on the other side that may therefore have been less dangerous or simply paid for us to transfer to a hotel with air con. The place wasn’t expensive, I know you get what you pay for, but these were exceptional circumstances. One lady took her pillow to the foyer hoping it would be easier to sleep there. Somewhat farcical. They should’ve have offered a full refund and helped find us somewhere else.
