The hotel was beautiful, although it could use a little "refresh", but you could see how it was a very desirable hotel in its grandeur. All of the staff was very kind and helpful, the bar and separate lounge area made perfect places for our group of 6 to meet before heading out in the morning or wind down in the evening. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the location could not be beat, directly across the street from Cardiff Castle and walkable to tons of restaurants and bars. I would highly recommend and stay again!

The staff at this hotel are absolutely amazing, i spoke to a lady via messages and what they did for me and my 2 daughters was so heartwarming ( they will know what im talking about )❤️ . They all went above and beyond and it made our weekend extra special. I am so thankful and so refreshed after the 2 night stay. Thank you so so much everyone. Xx

Location central convenient to local amenities shops, bars, restaurants etc & attractions including Cardiff Castle ( opposite the hotel) & Cardiff Principality Stadium , RWCMD. I didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on that. There is a bar area. Food menu looks ok. I found all the staff friendly , courteous and helpful. I had a standard double room overlooking the main street & castle wall. Mattress was comfortable, not sagging. The room was clean, well laid out & spacious. Plenty of sockets. Decor was simple with clean lines. Black & white prints of drawings , I assume of the city, decorating the walls were a nice touch. The windows had secondary glazing to help minimise general noise from the street; hotel can provide earplugs if necessary Cardiff city central area is known to be a party place & is always busy at weekends. Clear instructions provided about sorting own rubbish in the room to comply with Welsh legislation for all businesses. The bathroom - bath/ shower- was also spacious & very clean. Toiletries provided. However , long term, the hotel could be more eco by not offering individual products. Minor quibble- lead for the kettle was too short for the nearest socket to the beverage area so I had to move it. Entrance to the hotel is clear & uncluttered. Automatic front door is helpful. A coffee machine is in the reception area £.Free water is also provided. All in all a positive experience. I would recommend The Angel Hotel.

I rarely write negative reviews, but my recent stay was so thoroughly disappointing that I felt compelled to warn other travelers. What was supposed to be a relaxing trip ended up feeling like a survival challenge. Upon checking in, it was immediately clear that housekeeping had done a quick surface-level wipe at best with mystery stains on the carpet. The room felt stuck in a 1980s time capsule, and not in a charming, retro way. The wallpaper was peeling at the seams, the fixtures were falling apart and the floor creaked on every little movement. Hoping for a better experience at the breakfast buffet the next morning, I was greeted by rubbery bacon and sausages, watery coffee, and beans that seemed like they were cooked days ago. A hotel should provide basic comfort, function, and hygiene—this place offered none of the three. Save your money, preserve your peace of mind, and book somewhere else.

Great location, right across from Cardiff Castle and close to restaurants and shops. Train station is a few blocks away. An older, grand hotel but well maintained with comfy beds and clean rooms. Great breakfast options in the morning. Would stay here again.

The staff were very friendly, and upgraded us to a castle view room on arrival which was kind. The room was spacious, with a heated towel rack in the bathroom. Lots of little touches that made our stay here very enjoyable.

The room was filthy. Orange and red bits in the sink probably food from someone else’s spit. The ceiling’s peeling off in the bathroom and bedroom. Mould / discolouration in all the bathroom crevices. Mysterious stains all over the bed sheets and pillow covers. Awful sound proofing as I could hear the ladies in the room opposite yapping away all evening. Someone was knocking on their door or my door (couldn’t tell because the walls are so thin it sounds the same) at 9 / 10pm asking to be let in. As a woman I didn’t feel safe with this. No plug sockets by the bed so I couldn’t charge my phone overnight as putting it on the other side of the room would make me miss my alarm. The rooms are so outdated and not well maintained. And the worst part, no heating and awful weather proofing. The room was disgracefully cold and I tried to turn up the thermostat and turn on the heat but nothing. I had to put on my change of clothes on top of my pyjamas just to feel warmer (and was still freezing). The staff don’t even ask how your stay was at checkout (probably as they know they’ll receive poor feedback). Overall awful hotel, pictures don’t show the real / current state of the rooms, may have been nice 50 years ago but not fit for 2026.

Positive- staff friendly, great location for restaurants, bars, shops & principality stadium. Comfortable bed & clean bedding/towels. Negatives - Room was not as expected going by photos online. Very cheap & old furniture, in need of refurbishing, especially the bathroom. We were disappointed when we entered the room.

The staff were very friendly, and upgraded us to a castle view room on arrival which was kind. The room was spacious, with a heated towel rack in the bathroom. Lots of little touches that made our stay here very enjoyable.

The room was filthy. Orange and red bits in the sink probably food from someone else’s spit. The ceiling’s peeling off in the bathroom and bedroom. Mould / discolouration in all the bathroom crevices. Mysterious stains all over the bed sheets and pillow covers. Awful sound proofing as I could hear the ladies in the room opposite yapping away all evening. Someone was knocking on their door or my door (couldn’t tell because the walls are so thin it sounds the same) at 9 / 10pm asking to be let in. As a woman I didn’t feel safe with this. No plug sockets by the bed so I couldn’t charge my phone overnight as putting it on the other side of the room would make me miss my alarm. The rooms are so outdated and not well maintained. And the worst part, no heating and awful weather proofing. The room was disgracefully cold and I tried to turn up the thermostat and turn on the heat but nothing. I had to put on my change of clothes on top of my pyjamas just to feel warmer (and was still freezing). The staff don’t even ask how your stay was at checkout (probably as they know they’ll receive poor feedback). Overall awful hotel, pictures don’t show the real / current state of the rooms, may have been nice 50 years ago but not fit for 2026.
