an exciting experience for children because they can see wild animals up close, the area is still natural but the road signs and pedestrian areas are well maintained and clear.

Be one with nature with many monkeys. No need to be afraid because the monkeys here are not wild as long as we follow the instructions on how to interact with the monkeys.

There aren't too many photos because the staff recommends keeping your cellphones while in the monkey forest. Overall, it was very enjoyable even though we visited during the rain.

It was amazing experience. It was my first visit and I have scary yet funny incidents. So one monkey took my brother chips definitely they know too well even it’s hide it somewhere inside your bag they can open it. So beware if your bag carrying a lot of snacks. The monkey stealer will take it. And secondly they tried to take my husband tshirt as well no idea why. Not much to see other than wild monkey hehe pretty clean and no rain fortunately. We can enjoy walk around it fantastic.

Things to Do at Monkey Forest Ubud

There’s more to do at Monkey Forest Ubud than simply watching the monkeys (although they are the show's stars). The forest offers plenty of activities and sights to make your visit truly memorable:

  • Meet the Monkeys: The Balinese long-tailed macaques are the primary residents of Monkey Forest Ubud, and they are known for their playful nature. You’ll find them swinging through the trees, grooming each other, playing with their young, and sometimes interacting with visitors. While they are friendly, it’s important to keep a respectful distance and not feed or touch them, as they are wild animals. The forest staff provides guidelines to ensure a safe experience for both visitors and the monkeys.
  • Explore Ancient Hindu Temples: Three significant Hindu temples are located within the forest, each offering a glimpse into Bali’s ancient spiritual practices. The Pura Dalem Agung (Great Temple of Death) is the largest and most important temple dedicated to Shiva. The Pura Beji temple, located near a freshwater stream, is used for purification rituals, and the Pura Prajapati temple is a place for ceremonies honoring the village’s deceased. These temples, still used by locals, are surrounded by intricate stone carvings and statues, blending seamlessly with the forest landscape.
  • Stroll Along Scenic Paths: The sanctuary offers paved pathways that wind through the forest, making it easy for visitors to explore the lush surroundings. Walk through the dense jungle, passing ancient trees and exotic plant life. The pathways lead you to various points of interest, including the temples and scenic bridges that cross the forest’s streams. It’s a relaxing way to experience Bali’s natural beauty.
  • Photography: For photography enthusiasts, Monkey Forest Ubud is a paradise. The vibrant greenery, temple architecture, and the monkeys provide ample opportunities for stunning photos. Just be cautious when photographing the monkeys—keep your belongings secure, as these mischievous creatures are known for their curiosity!
  • Learn About Conservation: The sanctuary plays an important role in conservation efforts for the monkeys, the natural environment, and cultural heritage. You can learn about the ongoing projects to preserve this unique ecosystem and how the local community integrates spiritual beliefs with environmental conservation.
