Passengers can request a refund or reschedule if their flight is changed or canceled by the airline, but it will still follow the airline’s policy set for their booking.
In addition, you may also be eligible for a Special Recovery Policy from the airline if the change is deemed significant—each airline has its own policy for determining whether a flight change qualifies as a significant change.
So, if your booking is entitled to a Special Recovery Policy, the airline is required to provide compensation for you—such as a free reschedule or a full refund. Each airline has its own threshold to apply a Special Recovery Policy.
For flight changes that are not in close proximity to the original departure time, passengers may still request a refund or reschedule under the airline’s regular policy (not the Special Recovery Policy). This means that such requests may be subject to applicable fees, as the airline is not obligated to provide additional compensation.
