Scandic Kaisaniemi

Excellent location near to the main railway station. Enjoyed our time in Ateneum (art museum), which is right next door.

Friendly staff, and tons of nearby food, close to public transportation and supermarkets.

Excellent breakfast

Decent hotel. Excellent breakfast with a wide range of dishes. Hotel itself a little tired in places but for the money very good.

I arrived at 7am and was charged 20 euros for early check-in as the usual check-in time is 4pm. The front desk is manned 24 hrs and the staff are on-the-ball. The hotel's location is superb; Just a stone's throw to Kauppatori market, senate square, Helsinki Cathedral and Uspsenski Cathedral. It is located right beside the university, right beside an underground passage to casino, train station and food hall. It is also right next to a recycling shop where you can shop for 2nd hand stuff. There is a tram stop right outside the hotel so it helps if you are feeling tired and wanted to walk lesser. The down side is of course you can hear the trams travelling from the hotel room (it's quite muffled though audible). The worst part is the sound proofing because you can hear other rooms' flushing and when people walked past. There is no mini fridge nor mini bar in the room. Breakfast wise, there was a spread but it was not as varied as I expected it to be after reading the reviews. The breakfast was mainly assorted bread & jam, pickled vegetables, assorted cheese, chicken ham, oat porridge, overnight cereal, assorted cereal, rye rice pastry, scrambled eggs, 6 min egg, bacon, rosti (hashbrown), beetroot balls, baked beans, tomato with egg, assorted juice. The floor has some sand which I called for room service to clean the floor but the sand is still there. Room service is fantastic; they would change towels everyday unless you put do not disturb.

Scandic Kaisaniemi has a year end shut down but Hotels.com did not E-Mail me inform me the booking has been transferred to Scandic Simonkentta. End up having to pay additional 20 Euro for a taxi to go over to another Scandic hotel.

Convenient for centre of Helsinki and close to railway station. Good breakfast buffet. No tea or coffee making facilities in rooms though.

Overall good experience

The hotel has good location. Easy to walk to any place of interest. Our rooms were clean. Staff were very kind and helpful. Some good cafeterias and restaurants close. I would stay there again.

I felt that €140 per night was high for very basic accommodation. However the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was adequate

10 minutes walk from station. Hotel bit dated but rooms clean and confortable. Excellent buffet breakfast. Reception did not mention drinks available in rear of foyer as no tea coffee in rooms. Not an over friendly welcome. Good value for a central hotel. I would stay here again. Metro next door. Excellent for tram stops. No mention of the City Travel Card which is good value and useful. Valid for number of days you require...included boat trip to local island. They could do better promoting City, though there are brochures available.

We arrived at the hotel past midnight by rail. It was difficult to find the hotel as it's main sign was not lit. Thanks to GPS wich kept on repeating " you have reached your destination "

Very central location with transportation available right outside the hotel. Super friendly staff and good breakfast! 10/10

My favorite place to stay in Helsinki

The hotel is nice and clean, the staff is friendly. However all the amenities are run down. Yet the location is very good. So close to the city center, the port, the railway station, and the metro/ tram stops. There is a major supermarket right under the hotel and a number of cafes and shops, which is very nice for last minute things and necessities. The rooms did not have USB charge ports, but the staff was nice to loan a charger to me. Many thanks for that.
