Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), widely known as KLIA, is Malaysia's main international gateway and one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia. Whether you are flying home, heading abroad or catching a domestic hop across Malaysia, Traveloka helps you compare airlines and book flights from KUL with our Best Price Guarantee.
KLIA connects the Klang Valley to hundreds of destinations across Malaysia, Asia and the world. It serves more than 57 million passengers a year, making it the second-busiest airport in Southeast Asia after Singapore Changi and one of the busiest in the world. Operated by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) with three runways, KUL offers one of the widest route choices in the region — from full-service long-haul carriers at Terminal 1 to low-cost flights out of klia2 — and on Traveloka you can filter by price, airline, departure time and number of stops to find the flight that fits your trip.
Kuala Lumpur to Singapore is the single busiest international route out of KLIA and one of the most frequently flown sectors in the world, with over 250 flights every week. Other high-frequency international routes from KUL include Jakarta, Bangkok, Bali (Denpasar), Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo, with long-haul links to London and beyond. Because so many airlines compete on these routes, fares move constantly — set a Price Alert on Traveloka so you are notified when the price on your route drops.
For travel within Malaysia, KUL is the hub for flights to East Malaysia and the peninsula's holiday spots. Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu is the busiest domestic route, followed by Kuching, Langkawi and Penang. These routes are served frequently throughout the day by both full-service and low-cost carriers, so you can usually find a departure to match your schedule.
KUL is the home base of Malaysia Airlines and the AirAsia group, alongside a long list of domestic and international carriers. Which terminal you use depends on your airline:
Always check your booking confirmation for the correct terminal before you travel, as Terminal 1 and klia2 are separate buildings.
KLIA offers non-stop flights to a wide spread of regional and long-haul destinations. Popular direct routes include Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Bali, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo, plus non-stop long-haul services to cities in the Middle East, Europe and Australia. If you prefer to avoid connections, use the "direct only" filter when you search on Traveloka.
Fares from Kuala Lumpur vary with school holidays, festive seasons and demand on each route, so there is no single "cheapest day" that applies to every flight. As a general guide, booking a few weeks to a few months ahead and travelling in quieter periods tends to give you more choice at better prices. The most reliable way to catch a good fare is to set a Price Alert on Traveloka and let us watch the price for you — and with our Best Price Guarantee you can book with confidence.
KLIA has two main terminals. Terminal 1 (KLIA) handles full-service and most international flights; its international gates sit in a Satellite building connected to the Main Terminal by the Aerotrain, which recently reopened after a major upgrade and continues to expand its operating hours (a free shuttle bus operates as a backup). Terminal 2 (klia2), opened in 2014, is a purpose-built low-cost-carrier terminal and the main base for AirAsia. The two terminals are separate buildings about a few minutes apart, linked by the KLIA Ekspres train (roughly 3 minutes) and by road.
KLIA is located in Sepang, Selangor, about 45 km south of central Kuala Lumpur. Your main options into the city are:
Fares and schedules change from time to time, so please confirm the current price with the operator when you travel.
KLIA is a full-service international airport with premium lounges (including Plaza Premium and Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounges), airside transit-hotel options for long layovers, prayer rooms (surau) in both terminals, and extensive halal-certified dining, cafes and duty-free shopping. Free Wi-Fi, charging points, baggage services and 24-hour operations make both terminals convenient for early departures and late arrivals.
