Narita Airport, officially Narita International Airport (NRT), is Tokyo's main international gateway. It lies in Narita City in Chiba Prefecture, about 60 km east of central Tokyo. Tokyo's other airport is Haneda (HND), so check which one is on your ticket. Narita has three terminals: Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3). Each handles both international and domestic flights.
The terminal depends on your airline. ANA and its partners use Terminal 1 and Japan Airlines uses Terminal 2, while every airline at Terminal 3 is a low-cost carrier. Malaysian travellers flying Malaysia Airlines or Batik Air Malaysia go to Terminal 2.
The lists below are the passenger airlines at each terminal. Codeshare flights check in with the operating airline, and check-in counters can move, so always confirm the terminal on your e-ticket.
Terminal 1 has a North Wing, a South Wing and a Central Building. International check-in is on 4F of both wings, and the domestic check-in for ANA and Peach is on 1F of the South Wing. Peach checks in for international flights in the North Wing. These airlines fly from Terminal 1:
Terminal 2 has international check-in on 3F and domestic check-in for Japan Airlines on 1F, on the south side of the Main Building. These airlines fly from Terminal 2:
Terminal 3 is for low-cost carriers, with international and domestic check-in on 2F of the Main Building. Jetstar Japan and Spring Japan fly both domestic and international routes from here. These airlines fly from Terminal 3:
Free terminal shuttle buses run on three loops: one linking all three terminals, one between T1 and T2, and one between T2 and T3. The ride takes about 10 minutes between T1 and T2, about 14 minutes from T1 to T3 and about 3 to 6 minutes between T2 and T3, and road traffic can add delays. You can also walk between T2 and T3 along an access corridor, about 13 minutes from the Airport Terminal 2 station gates. If you are already through transit security, use the separate airside transit shuttle buses.
Central Tokyo is about 60 km away, so the train is usually the quickest choice. There are two airport stations: Narita Airport Station under T1, and Airport Terminal 2 Building Station for T2 and T3. Both are on B1F. Fares are shown at the ticket counter or machine.
The Skyliner runs on the Narita Sky Access line from both airport stations. It reaches Nippori in about 36 minutes at its fastest and Keisei Ueno in about 41 minutes.
The Access Express takes about 46 minutes to Oshiage and continues onto the Toei Asakusa Line for Asakusa and Shinbashi. The Keisei Main Line is slower but has more trains, taking about 64 minutes from Airport Terminal 2 station to Oshiage.
The Narita Express reaches Tokyo Station in about 53 minutes at its fastest, and about an hour on a typical service. It continues to Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku and Yokohama.
The Airport Limousine and other direct buses leave from stops in front of each terminal, and bus ticket counters are in the arrivals areas. The Airport Limousine from T1 to Tokyo Station is timetabled at about 85 to 100 minutes, depending on traffic.
Standard taxis and fixed-fare zone taxis to Tokyo wait at the taxi stands across the pedestrian deck at each terminal. By car, Narita is reached via the Higashi-Kanto Expressway and the Shin-Kuko Expressway. Private cars cannot enter T3, so use the T2 kerbside instead.
Narita has four public car parks: P1 and P5 on the Terminal 1 side, and P2 and P3 on the Terminal 2 side. If you are flying from Terminal 3, park at the Terminal 2 car parks, as P2 connects directly to T2. You can reserve a space in advance, which is worth doing because the car parks can fill up at peak holiday periods. P3 takes large buses, and motorcycles can only use P1 and P2.
Here is what you will find across the three terminals, starting with what travellers ask about most.
Most airline lounges are after security on the international side. Terminal 1 has the ANA Lounge and ANA Suite Lounge in its satellites, plus Korean Air, United Club, Turkish Airlines and Narita Premier lounges, and an ANA Arrival Lounge in the South Wing. Terminal 2 has the JAL Sakura Lounge and First Class Lounge, the China Airlines Dynasty Lounge, the Emirates lounge and an Aspire lounge, and JAL also has a domestic Sakura Lounge there. The Cathay Pacific lounge in T2 is temporarily closed for renovation. Card lounges are available before and after security in T1 and T2. There are no lounges in T3, so T3 passengers who want one should head to T2.
In T1, international departures and check-in are on 4F, domestic arrivals on 3F, and international arrivals and domestic departures on 1F. In T2, international departures are on 3F, domestic arrivals on 2F, and international arrivals and domestic departures on 1F. T3 has departures on 2F and arrivals on 1F. The railway stations are on B1F of T1 and T2.
Restaurants and cafes are open before and after security in all three terminals, with the most choice in T1 and T2. Each terminal has a 24-hour convenience store, and T2 and T3 have 24-hour restaurants. The airport's restaurant search lets you filter for halal and vegetarian options.
Duty-free shops are after security on the international side of all three terminals. You can also shop at arrival duty-free before customs, and there is a duty-free pick-up counter.
Smoking is banned inside and outside the terminals except in designated smoking areas. There are many in T1 and T2, and T3 has its own smoking areas too.
Baggage storage counters are before security in T1, T2 and T3, and coin lockers are in all three terminals. You can also send bags between the airport and your home with a baggage delivery service.
Prayer rooms are in all three terminals, both before security and after security on the international side.
The T1 Central Building has landside shower rooms on 2F and an airside dayroom with showers and nap rooms on 3F for international passengers. T2 has an airside dayroom with showers and nap rooms in the Satellite on 3F, plus showers at the 24-hour landside cafe and refreshment space on 2F of the Main Building.
Shops selling Japanese food, sweets and folkcraft are in all three terminals. The biggest landside clusters are on 4F of the T1 Central Building and 4F of the T2 Main Building, with more after security.
Currency exchange counters and machines are in all three terminals, and ATMs too, including some in T1 and T2 that are open 24 hours. Free Wi-Fi (FreeWiFi-NARITA) covers every terminal and the shuttle buses. Free power outlets are in many spots, and mobile batteries can be rented.
Wheelchairs and strollers can be borrowed free at information counters, with no booking needed. Baby and kids facilities are available, and there is accessible parking in P1, P2 and P5 and an accessible drop-off zone at T3. Clinics are also listed at the airport, and T1 has drugstores after security.
Narita advises arriving at least 2 hours before departure, for international and domestic flights alike. Check your airline's check-in opening time too. Allow for the 60 km journey from central Tokyo when you plan your trip to the airport.
The terminals stay open at night. The T1 and T2 arrivals and domestic departure floors (1F) and all of T3 are open 24 hours, while the other T1 and T2 floors open from about 05:00 to 24:00. Narita has a night-time curfew on take-offs and landings, and flights resume from 06:00, so an early start may mean waiting in the terminal.
Arriving from Malaysia, you go through Japanese immigration and customs before reaching the arrivals hall. Check Japan's current entry requirements for your passport before you travel. For updates on the day, use the Traveloka flight status page.
The fare cards on this page show fares from Tokyo Narita to popular destinations. Under those, the Narita Airport flight schedule runs through upcoming flights day by day, naming the airline and giving the scheduled departure and arrival times. It shows a selection rather than every service, so use it to compare and then search your own dates.
