Nice reception, friendly staff, nice room However, shower wasn't draining quick enough and wasnt able to cool the water enough Parking cost was extortionate Sofa for my son wasn't very comfortable, could have done with a mattress topper

Had issues with the room not being clean- sweets on bedside table, bathroom & sofa bed caked in dust/grime & clearly never been cleaned. Had to ask 3 times at reception before the room was properly clean & ended up discussing with a second manager on checkout as the one discussed with initially offered part refund as she was unable to move us to a different room then never got back to me. The manager (Peter Steadman) who eventually sorted things out for me was excellent and took my complaint seriously. Shame it needed to come to this though. The room was tidy and comfortable. The shower amazing and the staff very helpful and friendly.

Staff were lovely but the room itself (229) wasn't too good. The bed was rock hard, the mirror was all stained, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall, one towel had suspicious marks on it and the toilet roll was so cheap and dirty all on the side. Not what you'd really expect from a Novotel.

Outside frontage poorly maintained, dies not give good first impression. Reception staff not the friendliest, more checking everything is paid, car park etc., pushing breakfast at £15 each, last time it was awful, no thank you! Not welcoming, suited a purpose for us as visiting concert close by at Barbican. Done it twice now, won't stay again, kids and dogs everywhere too! 30 mins allocated slot in pool area, struggle to spend more than 10 mins as small and only a sauna as well as pool. Key card doesnt work on door, Receptionist has to check you're booked in before allowing you in! Room adequate 330, but worlds smallest toilet room and sewage smell from sink (read that too on previous reviews) obviously nothing done about it. Stains on carpet, bleach? Poor for a Novotel, expect better.

Great family hotel! Only 15 mins to city center. Had a queen room with a sofa bed, very spacious comparing to other hotels with stayed before.

Room was clean and tidy. There were not enough outlets on the bed side of the room. Had to stretch cords from the TV side of the room too charge and run medical devices.

There was a funny smell coming from the sink in the bathroom smelt like the sewage which was disappointing

Room very nice, the location is great for York centre. The bonus is the car park owned by the hotel plenty of space.

Clean and spacious room with excellent service and breakfast

I've stayed at the York Novotel several times over the past few years. On the whole the hotel would rate excellent. The only reason i rate it down is the rock hard bed, but that is my preference. We had a meal in the hotel one night of the stay, the menu is somewhat limited but the food and service were excellent. The bed doesn't stop me returning. The hotel is very well situated for the cty centre.
