About

Marudi is a town situated on the Baram River in Miri Division, Sarawak approximately 80 kilometres from Miri. . Historically, in 1883, it was named Claudetown in honour of Claude Champion de Crespigny, Resident of the Third Division when he died in 1884, and became the administrative centre of the division. Charles Hose became Resident of Baram District in 1891 and the fort in Marudi was renamed as "Fort Hose". It is also the largest town in Sarawak and acts as the district administrative headquarters since the days of the White Rajahs. Marudi located near to the well-known tourist destination, Gunung Mulu National Park. Pioneer tourists would travel from Miri to Marudi first, and then from the river, tourists would have to use long boats cutting through few adventurous rapids upstream before reaching Mulu. Other than that, it is a busy town whose traders supply most of Sarawak’s northern interior and Marudi also composed of dozens of different ethnic groups.

How to Get There

By Plane

Marudi is served by Marudi Airport (MUR) and you can fly for 3 hours and 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport by using Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines and many other flights. Besides that, Marudi also has a connection road to Miri which only need about 1.5 hours to reach Miri City.

The Gunung Mulu National Park

Gunung Mulu is a national park named after Mount Mulu, the second highest mountain in Miri Division, Sarawak, Malaysia and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses caves and karst formations in a mountainous equatorial rainforest setting. The park is famous for its caves and the expeditions that have been mounted to explore them and their surrounding rainforest which most notably the Royal Geographical Society Expedition of 1977–1978.
