About

Kajang town was founded in 1807. According to the history long ago, there was a Malay and aborigine settlement called Reko. One day, a Malay friend and his aborigine friend were on their way home to Reko on a sampan when suddenly there was a heavy rain. The Malay friend said to his aborigine friend, “Mari kita ber’kajang’.” which means ‘Let’s take a shelter.’ However, the aborigine friend misunderstood his sentence as ‘Let’s fight!’ Thus, the aborigine friend took out his weapon and killed the Malay friend. The location of the incident is now known as Kajang.

Kajang is a sub-district of Hulu Langat district in Selangor, Malaysia. Kajang’s main population centres are Bandar Mahkota, Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Beranang, Jalan Bukit, Jalan Reko, Semenyih Town, Sungai Chua, Sungai Jelok, Sungai Kantan, Sungai Ramal, Sungai Sekamat, Taman Kajang Perdana, Taman Kajang Prima, Taman Kantan Permai, Taman Prima Saujana, Taman Saujana Impian and Taman Sri Ramal.

How to Get There

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through the many network of tolled expressways and federal highways towards Kajang. Highway 1, the north-south federal highway of Peninsular Malaysia runs through downtown Kajang and then southwards until Johor Bahru. The main ring road for Kajang is the SILK Expressway which starts in Seri Kembangan and forms a beltway around downtown Kajang before ending near Bangi.

Tourist Attractions

One of Kajang’s landmark is Kajang Stadium which is located in the heart of Kajang town. Kajang Stadium is used throughout the year for the community soccer competitions and can accommodate up to 5000 spectators.

Another landmark is the Kajang Jamek Mosque, which is easily spotted by its bright yellow façade. For a different experience, people may head up to Semenyih area whereby there is a theme park called Ostrich Wonderland which offers the opportunity to get in touch with the farm animals such as ostriches, guinea-fowl, turkeys, chickens and geese. Semenyih area is also the location of the famous hiking spot known as Broga Hill. It takes nearly one hour journey to hike up to the peak.

Kajang is famous for its satay, a form of skewered grilled meat. These meat is marinated and pierced on bamboo sticks before being grilled using burning charcoal. Satay is served together with chunky spicy peanut sauce, cubed rice, cucumbers and onions. Because of this, Kajang is sometimes referred as “Satay Town” and is famous among the locals and tourists alike. The top place to eat satay in Kajang is at the Bangunan Dato’ Nazir where the Haji Samuri Satay place is located. Opposite to the Kajang Stadium, there is the Satay Gallery where visitors are able to gain some information on the origin of satay in Kajang.
