Meru area is a new town developed by the Perak State Development Corporation. It is located in the northern city of Ipoh in Perak, Malaysia. The nearby towns are Jelapang and Chemor. Meru is being developed to portray a city that houses Perak government buildings, bus terminals, shopping complexes, theme parks, commercial areas and residential areas. Meru area covers approximately 3000 acres to become Ipoh’s satellite metropolis for work, live, play and learn.
Meru area was once denoted as a sleepy city as there are not much development. Many years ago, when Meru was mentioned, it is considered a secondary area.
How to Get There
By Plane
There are flights to Ipoh provided by Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Firefly and Air Asia. From the airport, guests may hail up a taxi to Meru.
By Car
People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through the North-South Expressway (PLUS) to reach Meru by two exit option, either through the Ipoh Utara exit or Jelapang exit. From any of the two exits, further drive will bring guests to arrive at Meru.
Among the available express bus services are Edaran, Super Ria, Konsortium, PLUSLiner and Transnasional giving direct links from Kuala Lumpur to Meru Raya bus terminal.
By Train
Other option is to take the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Intercity or KTM Electric Train Service (ETS) trains that offers stop at the Ipoh Railway Station. From the station, guests may hail up a taxi to Meru.
Tourist Attractions
One of the latest attraction in Meru is the largest roundabout in Malaysia called Bulatan Meru Raya. It is also known as Bulatan 18 or Bulatan Casuarina by the locals. Here is the place that sums up the hub for tourist attraction by having a family get together place with parks, water fountain and playground for children. It is a secured and safe location with a CCTV controlled assistance.
There are also ongoing projects of having two massive theme parks, namely the Movie Animation Park Studios and Aquaventure Theme Park. Movie Animation Park Studios will feature dedicated zone for DreamWorks Animation popular animated characters such as Casper the Friendly Ghost, Megamind, The Croods and Mr Peabody and Sherman. Also joining in are local animation character, Boboiboy from Animonsta Studios and Smurfs chaacters licensed from I.M.P.S. Belgium.
Aquaventure Theme Park is targeting to promote the tin mining and limestones of Perak by featuring creative rides and water fun-filled activities with these concept.
People who appreciate beautiful colonial era building would surely admire Ipoh Railway Station. Local residents also recognized it as the Taj Mahal of Ipoh since some of the building structures are featuring Mughal architecture. There is a Rythmic Water Fountain show at the park nearby during the night.
Being in Ipoh district, a must-try is to taste the original Ipoh White Coffee that has been hands down and served by most kopitiams (coffee shops) around.
