Miri is located in the middle of Malaysian Borneo and close to the border of Brunei Darussalam. The airport is situated in Jalan Airport, Miri Sarawak. Miri Airport (IATA: MYY, ICAO: WBGR) is the sixth busiest airport in Malaysia, and the second busiest in Sarawak in terms of passenger and aircraft movement. Located 9.5 km (5.9 mi) south east of Miri makes it a suitable hub for rural air services and an important gateway to Sarawak.

Miri Airport went through a major renovation to cater for the growing number of passengers in 2011. The newly built terminal has a capacity of 2 million passengers per year. The terminal is equipped with a total of 3 conveyor belts in the baggage reclaim hall and a total of 15 check-in counters. Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Marrybrown and Famous Amos are some of several shops and food and baverage outlets that can be found in the airport terminal.

There are airport taxi counters outside of the baggage claim area. Depending on the type of the the taxi, usually, one way taxi fare from the airport are fixed. Prior boarding a taxi, one shall purchase a coupon at the counter and proceed to the taxi stand outside the terminal.
