The centre is located in Chengdu, Sichuan. The centre was founded in 1987 with only six giant pandas that are rescued from the wild and since then, the centre currently is the home to 83 giant pandas with a recorded 124 panda births over the years. The goal of the centre is to "be a world-class research facility, conservation education centre, and international educational tourism destination."
