Kagoshima is one of the most famous holiday destinations among tourists. It is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture located at the southwestern of the Kyushu island. This place has its own nickname - "Naples of the Eastern World". It was founded in 1889. More than half of the land is covered by volcanic ash. Mt. Sakurajima has located only four km from the city. Kagoshima Airport – It is located only 30 km away from the city. This is the second busiest airport after Fukuoka Airport. It was open back in 1972. The Tourist and General Information Office are located on the first floor of the domestic terminal. It operating hours is from 6.30 AM until the arrival time of the last flight. Kagoshima's climate is subtropical. Kagoshima has warm weather and higher temperatures on average than the rest of Japan. Similar to the rest of West Japan, Kagoshima has basically high humidity in Summer (from June to the end of September). Winter in Kagoshima is cold, but it only snows a few times a year. The best season to visit Kagoshima climatically is Spring (April – May) before the rainy season (mid-June – the beginning of July) and Autumn (Oct-Nov.).
