Best time to fly from Clark-Pampanga to Coron-Palawan

The best time to visit Coron would be in January and February, which is just after the monsoon season and before the peak season starts to set in from March to June. In January and February, there will still be occasional rainfall from time to time, but the skies are clear, and tides are calm. March to June is when the tourists start to flock in so, be ready for a slightly congested scene at the beaches. Do try to avoid Coron from August to December as this is when the monsoon season starts and brings strong winds and rainfall.

Main airports available in Clark-Pampanga and Coron-Palawan

Clark International Airport (CRK) - Clark International Airport is 80 km northwest of Manila. It is an easy 1-hour 30-minute drive from the capital. Located in the province of Pampanga, the Clark International Airport serves the general vicinity of central and northern Luzon. Travelers can easily catch public buses in the Metro Manila area to the Clark International Airport. For a cheaper ride, travelers can opt for the air-conditioned jeepneys en route to the nearby Dau Bus Terminal and SM City Clark. Around the Clark International Airport, travelers can walk around the Clark Freeport Zone, which is five minutes away. There are plenty of restaurants and duty-free shops to keep you entertained. For travelers with a little extra time, not far from the airport is the Dinosaur Island theme park.

Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) - Francisco B. Reyes Airport or the Coron Airport named after the former mayor of Coron. The airport was also formerly known as Busuanga Airport. The airport is located on Busuanga Island, approximately 40 minutes away from Coron town. As fields and jungle surround the airport, only propeller planes can land on the short runway. The terminal is small and has no air-conditioning or luggage conveyer belt. However, there are a few coffee shops, restaurants, and souvenir shops within the airport terminal. From the airport, you can take a jeepney for about one hour to reach Coron. The jeepney ride will cost approximately PHP 150 per person.

Climate patterns in Clark-Pampanga and Coron-Palawan

Located approximately 500 kilometers south from Clark, Coron experience a tropical climate, meaning it is hot all year round. Coron experiences less rain from January to April compared to Clark with the average rainfall during these months in Coron being at only 16.25 mm compared to 21.75 mm in Clark. Clark has a slightly higher average temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius compared to Coron, which is only 27.2 degrees Celsius.

Highlights in Coron

  • Coron Panorama at Kayangan Lake – Located in the north of the Island, the Kayangan Lake is one of the most famous and most photographed spots in Coron. Dubbed the cleanest lake in Coron, the Kayangan Lake is only a few minutes boat ride from Coron Town. To reach the lake, visitors will have to do a 15 to 30 minutes hike to reach the lake. Besides the impressive viewpoint, visitors can visit the cave, swim in the crystal clear waters, and discover hidden passages between limestone cliffs. You can easily spend one day at Kayangan Lake and feel that you need more time.
  • WWII Shipwreck Dive – No diver should miss out on a dive at this WWII Shipwreck site. The Japanese convoy which included supply and warships sunk in Coron Bay in 1944. Not many places in the world offer the chance for these many shipwrecks at one site. Here divers will be able to see seven of ships lying on the seabed at depths ranging from 10 to 40 meters. The ships are encrusted with coral and house abundant marine life.
  • Coron Twin Lagoon – Take a 20-minute boat ride from Coron town, and you will reach the Twin Lagoon, a place where the waters range from a luminescent turquoise to emerald greens. Visitors will not only be able to awe at the pristine waters but also at the limestone karst formations that have been twisted by erosion. Many come here to take a dip in the cool waters. However, do be careful as large sea urchins scattered along the ocean floor.
