Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is in New Jersey and serves the New York metropolitan area. Its passenger terminals are A, B and C. United Airlines uses more than one of them, while Singapore Airlines uses Terminal B, so the terminal on your booking matters as much as the airport code.
Terminal A handles domestic and international departures, with assignments that depend on the airline and direction of travel. Its airlines include:
JetBlue uses A for domestic and international departures. United uses A for domestic departures and arrivals, alongside its operations elsewhere at EWR.
Terminal B serves domestic and international passengers. Airlines here include Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Air India, Lufthansa and British Airways. JetBlue international arrivals and some United international arrivals also use B. A departure and the return arrival can therefore involve different terminals.
United Airlines operates domestic and international departures and arrivals at Terminal C. Do not head straight to C solely because the airline is United: its EWR flights can also involve A or B. Read the terminal separately for each flight on your e-ticket.
The AirTrain connects Terminals B and C with Terminal A Station and airport transport facilities. It does not stop directly at the Terminal A building. From Terminal A Station, continue on the covered walkway or use the shuttle. Include this final connection when planning to meet someone at A or moving with luggage.
NJ Transit trains call at Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines. These services connect with Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station. The airport station, Newark Penn and New York Penn are separate stops: choose the one that matches your destination.
There is a temporary weekday daytime bus replacement for the AirTrain link to the Airport Train Station. Rail passengers arriving at that station take a shuttle directly to their terminal. Leaving EWR for the railway station during the replacement period involves the AirTrain to P4 and then a shuttle bus. Follow the construction transfer signs and check the day's transport instructions before setting out.
The Newark Airport Express picks up at all passenger terminals and goes to Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park and Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Choose the stop nearest your onward journey. NJ Transit local buses also connect EWR with Newark and nearby communities, including Newark Penn Station.
Short-term parking is near the terminals. P4 parking connects with the AirTrain, while economy parking uses terminal shuttle buses. When choosing a car park, account for its terminal transfer as well as the drive to EWR; a parking reservation and a flight terminal are two different destinations.
The passenger terminals have restaurants, cafes and shops. Use the options within the terminal and security area for your flight, especially if you are changing terminals. A meal stop works more easily after you have identified where the onward flight boards, rather than crossing the airport just for a shop.
Free Wi-Fi is available at EWR. Keep your e-ticket accessible on your phone for the terminal check and save the information needed for your journey beyond the airport. This is particularly useful when choosing between the two Penn stations or following replacement-bus directions.
Compare flights by travel date, airline and the airport shown in the booking. The schedule section lists upcoming flights with their planned times. For a New York search, confirm that your selected result uses EWR before arranging a Newark terminal transfer.
These city routes help you explore onward flights from New York. They use a city-wide search, so inspect the airport code in each result:
Choose your Newark flight on Traveloka, then check the airline's terminal instructions before travelling. For updates to an individual flight, use the flight-status hub.
