Continental breakfast better than expected

It's a perfectly positioned hotel opposite the.river Cam and parkland, a few minutes walk from town. My room was in alovely turret with a high view, a deep bath, a huge bed, ample space and desk. The breakfast was great. The staff responsive, unobtrusive and friendly. I had a fab stay.

Very good location. Good food. Restaurant staff very courteous, efficient and helpful. I’d particularly like to commend Basil. But reception staff didn’t have any local knowledge (eg the whereabouts of Tourist Information, for example Car parking charges are extortionate but if you book directly with the hotel it’s free. This isn’t easy to navigate before arry

This hotel is very very tired. We were upgraded. Not sure what we got for that, as we were placed in an area of units at the back of the hotel. The room size was ok for the two of us. However, it all went down hill from there. The carpets are very old and stained. The room had only a double bed, not queen or king as you might expect. The bed and linen were clean though. The bathroom was totally unacceptable. There was mould on the tiles and in particular the showerhead was covered with it. Disgraceful. Breakfast offered was simple and it was ok. What you would expect from a 3 star. Inside main hotel, it looked like it hasn’t seen any remodelling for 40 years. Very tired.

Lovely stay at Arundel House. Staff were very helpful, especially lovely lady at check in. Continental Breakfast was good and location perfect for walking Cambridge

Our room was on the first floor and there was no air conditioning so the room was unbelievably hot. We opened the windows which made very little difference and to add to our discomfort we were subjected to the noise of the traffic and rowdy passers by. We were actually thinking of driving home at 2.00 as it was impossible to sleep.

All good apart from the tiny bed. Excellent location and a generally comfortable stay. Also don't be hoodwinked by the lure of free parking if you book direct, the cost is inflated by the price of parking so no gain and no hotels.com points!

The property is a bit dated decor and furnishings could do with upgrade. The entrance to reception could do with the door painted and the flag stones and steps power washed. The rooms were clean and bedding good. The staff were lovely. The hotel is in a good position to explore all of the attractions.

Location great. However, from what looks like a nice Victorian hotel from the road and the public areas, the accommodation itself was very poor. Fraying furniture, yellowing installations including the phone, which didn’t work. No air-con or fans available on the 30c hottest day of the year. The room was an oven and we had little sleep. Add to that, the bar and restaurant were closed and £16 for the pleasure of using their own parking! Continental Breakfast was passable, ignoring the squashed croissants, albeit for the price I would have expected a full English without the £25 supplement for the two of us. I think my overall conclusion is this could easily be 5*’s with a bit more attention to detail and not just relying on its location to sell rooms. Disappointing.

The room was clean and spacious. However the continental breakfast options were lacking.

Convenient location and parking. Love being on the river and Jesus Green. Property is clean and functional, albeit dated and basic.

The room was ill kempt and dirty. I crotch this with the receptionist whi asked me to email them with the photos. To date I have had no response.

Great location. Close to the punting locations. Tight halls and long hike with multiple stairs to our room. Other hotels had loaner electrical adapters but here they didn’t. They only sell them but were out when I needed one. Room was clean enough but as cold as the staff.

It isn’t so much the property that is the problem, it is the staff annd operation. I waited 4 hours for a room, the staff was unhelpful and uninterested, the central heating was not turned on until 1700 hrs so the room was cold, the restaurant food was basic and unappealing. Most confronting was the hotel’s policy that guests cannot order in takeaway - that policy was not mentioned on its website or the Expedia property description.

We stayed for two nights in a quadruple family room. The room itself was quite dated, although it was clean overall. There was some dust underneath the pull-out bed, which could have been addressed more thoroughly. On a positive note, the double bed was very comfortable, and the blackout curtains ensured a great night’s sleep. The in-room facilities were good, with a nice selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. The bathroom was clean, and the shower was powerful, which was a real plus. The hotel as a whole could benefit from some refurbishment, as there were signs of wear and tear, including ripped wallpaper in some of the public areas. We really enjoyed the continental breakfast, which offered a good variety including cereals, yoghurts, croissants, spreads, ham, and cheese. The catering staff were friendly and clearly worked hard to keep everything well stocked. Overall, the location is perfect for exploring the Cambridge on foot.
