Harte and Garter

I booked it for two nights when we arrived. It was late in the evening. We had to leave. The toilet was dirty mould in the bathtub. Ripped curtains hole in the wall.

Our room may not have been quite up to Deluxe standard. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Good towels. Very good view from our room across to Windsor castle. Did not hear any noise in the night. Would have preferred to have had a cooked breakfast in a dining room which is not part of the hotel. Staff were very helpful. A lovely old hotel with lots of character. Needs some decorating in places. We enjoyed our stay.

Very hot dispite 2 fans in the room. They obviously had air con as there was a unit but doesn’t work. Had to shut the window as there’s a night club some where very close. Kept us awake till 3.30am

This hotel is in a brilliant location. After reading some bad reviews I was worried but I needn’t have been. The hotel was full of character. We had a superior castle view room which was lovely. A little bit tired maybe. The windows could do with some attention but it was big and the bathroom was clean and everything worked. Plenty of hot water and plenty of towels. The bed was big and very comfortable. Tea & coffee and kettle in the room and even an air cooler which was very useful during the heatwave ! We didn’t have breakfast so cannot comment. The staff were all lovely,polite & helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Harte & Garter and would definitely stay there again.

Very clean room and polite staff

The location is absolutely perfect, just across from the castle. The hotel was clean, and our room had an amazing view of the castle. It was everything we needed for a one-night stay. The building is old, so some things are a little outdated—including the elevator 😊. It works, but it's slow, makes some interesting noises, and sometimes requires a little patience. Nobody bothered us, the price was right, and I would definitely stay here again. If what matters most to you is location, simplicity, and good value, I highly recommend this hotel.

Would not recommend. Great location and very friendly staff — that was the highlight of our stay. The hotel lobby gives an attempted boutique feel, but unfortunately the rooms are musty and quite outdated. The red carpeting seems to hide dust and general wear. The bed was extremely uncomfortable; we could feel the springs pressing into our backs throughout the night. There is no air conditioning, which is fairly common in Europe, but the fans provided were covered in dust. Overall, I would only recommend this hotel for a short stay if location is your main priority.

I had an awful stay at this property. It is easily one of the worst places I have ever booked. The room was in a state of total disrepair and clearly lacks proper maintenance. Here are the main issues I encountered during my stay: Plumbing Problems: The toilet flush handle was incredibly loose. It was so broken that I actually had to remove the toilet tank lid every single time just to flush it. Additionally, the hot water faucet on the bathroom sink did not work at all, so there was no hot water available there. Broken Lighting: The room was dark and poorly maintained. One light in the bathroom was completely broken, and another light in the bedroom was not working either. Cosmetic and Safety Issues: The paint was peeling off heavily in the bathtub area. To make matters worse, the air conditioning unit was missing its cover entirely, leaving the internals exposed. This place is completely neglected. I highly recommend avoiding this property until management decides to invest in basic maintenance and repairs. I can hear workers throwing bottles into the bins in the morning. Workers talking in the back alley.

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. I could have used some instructions on working the shower. I ended up with a sponge bath. The hotel did its best with two fans to cool down the room during the heat wave, but we slept on top of the covers with the windows open. The location was excellent.

Hotel is a bit tired but room was ok, a bit small but clean & fine for a night. I was at the back of the hotel with views of the grubby outside of the building next door, and was very noisy when they emptied the bottles into the bins! Try & get a room in the front if you can.

Dirty, with mold in the shower, and looks like the facility hasn't had a repair job in decades. Pictures do not match the rooms giving the appearance of a more well maintained property than actual.

The room was pretty standard which we expected, but no fridge or hairdryer. The shower had a constant drip, the bathroom had an odour. The basin had a crack in it and when the room was cleaned the used mugs were not changed but rinsed out as there stains from previous use.

The floor was falling apart in the bathroom and the basin was blocked, the water took ages to drain away. The 'breakfast' was awful and was just a to go bag. Should not be advertised as a bed and breakfast.

Hotel location is excellent and no noise disturbance at night. Check in was fast and friendly. Room was very tired and stifling hot even with the air con unit. Bathroom was clean but very worn and in desperate need of a refurb. Well equipped room. Common areas were worn and also in need of an urgent refurb. Didnt eat at hotel due to other commitments

We were treated politely by staff and they were helpful but honestly, the facade is just so deceptive! A beautiful front and lounge, then very much in need of some tlc inside. Also, a beautiful website but no detail, just feel a little conned if I’m honest. A little honesty here please!

Very disappointing. Tatty carpets everywhere, no on site parking, no restaurant, Aircon useless
