New Holgate

Wonderful place to spend a coupe of noght! The staff are all so helpful and friendly! The chef prepares an amazing breakfast each morning, too! The rooms are clean, lovely and comfortable! I highly recommend this BnB. My husband and I had a wonderful two night stay!

The hotel is on a main road and is ideally situated just outside the city centre and around 5 minutes from the racecourse. It’s about £5 in a taxi to both. The room we booked had plenty of room and was very clean and modern. I had looked up the hotel before we booked and found that the car parking is behind the building on Weston Terrace and is charged at £20 per day. The electric chargers were out of service though. We got back to our hotel at night and had to work out how to get in. The front door closes at 10 and there didn’t appear to be any staff working. So we had to go around to the back of the building to get in. When you check in you’re escorted to your room. Don’t think that the receptionist has left her drink in your room! It’s a complimentary water along with a flask of milk for the provided tea and coffee. The Wi-Fi is free and very easy to connect to. Use it to connect the TV too. We slept really well. However, the room was quite warm and the windows only open slightly. Overall this was a really good stay during races week and we would happily come back.

We were so impressed with our beautiful room at this small hotel. The staff were very helpful and there was parking available behind the hotel for an additional fee.

Ich war insgesamt eine Woche in dem Hotel. Mein Zimmer war sehr schön eingerichtet - alles ziemlich neu und in dem von mir gewünschtem englischen Vintage-Stil inklusive Sofa und Sitzecke - und sauber. Ein Traum war das sehr bequeme, französische Bett. Das Hotel lag ca. 20 Minuten zu Fuß, bzw. 10 Minuten mit dem Bus vom Bahnhof entfernt. Es war innerhalb der Räumlichkeiten recht ruhig, man konnte kaum Geräusche aus den Nebenzimmern wahrnehmen. Auch das junge Personal war mehr als zuvorkommend und sehr freundlich. Es gab jedoch drei Punkte, weshalb mir eine sehr gute Bewertung leider nicht möglich ist: Straßenlärm Ich hatte ein Zimmer zur stark befahrenen Hauptstraße, von der aus auch viele Buslinien fuhren (Vorteil). Leider hatte man nur in der Zeit von 1 Uhr nachts bis 5 Uhr morgens tatsächlich Ruhe im Zimmer. Nach ein paar Tagen gewöhnt man sich zwar an den Lärm, aber wer Ruhe sucht, wäre hier wohl an verkehrter Stelle. Dusche Mit der Dusche hatte ich meine Probleme. Sie ließ sich nicht wirklich warm stellen, es sei denn, man ließ sie zehn Minuten ohne Nutzung rauschen. Auch war der Wasserdruck sehr gering. WLAN Bei meiner Ankunft war das WLAN-Netz defekt und wurde erst am Nachmittag vor meiner Abreise repariert. Da auch der Fernseher nur über WLAN funktionierte, blieb einem abends nur die Möglichkeit, zu lesen oder ins nahegelegene Kino zu gehen. Ich habe meinen Aufenthalt in York trotz allem sehr genossen.

Stayed here before and it was great. This time it wasn’t. We felt like we were in the staffs way. Last time a server took your Oder for breakfast. This time ,had to place order in advance for “ hot food “and give time for food. After traveling one can’t always know when they want breakfast. Didn’t want to be on a schedule. once we awoke we went and asked how long it would take to order and was told 10 minutes. We ordered, took 45 min. Croissants were out by coffee, ate one when waiting. Parking area was locked after we arrived back from seeing friends at 8:25 pm. We weren’t told we had to get out and use key to unlock gate , pull in and lock gate back. No internet entire time which meant no tv. Front reception ,closed early at night around 6-7. Nobody there. Dark in hotel. Second day decided no breakfast ( hot ) due to how long previous day was, so would grab coffee and croissant. No croissants. I asked for one and guy said “ you didn’t order beforehand “. Which is insane. Second night hotel staff leaves and dark again. It’s more like an Airbnb now than before. If I were traveling alone as a woman which I will be next time, I want hotel staff in case I need them. No internet. No tv. No options for breakfast except boxed cereal if you dont pre order with set time. Coffee machine, lukewarm coffee. Staff non friendly made us feel inconvenience. Eeerie that the staff locks up and place is pitch dark each evening Completely different experience this time than last.

The Internet and TV were out of order. Other aspects were very good.

Great hotel, great location, fantastic breakfast and staff. Only downside but wouldn’t stop us going back is the road noise from in the front rooms.

Einziger Kritikpunkt bestand darin, dass nur eines der beiden Fenster geöffnet wurden konnte. Und das auch nur gering.

The Hotel was lovely. The staff very helpful, and the breakfast superb!!!

What a beautiful room! Great to have a sofa and a big tv with lots of channels to choose from. Slept fairly well, but there was no aircon and the windows opened just a little bit. It’s a bit far from the city centre but totally walkable. Train station about 10 min walk away. It was a lovely stay overall, but very pricey.

We stayed for 2 nights in a ground floor room.

Adorei o hotel, bom atendimento, perto do centro de York, cama confortável e quarto amplo. O que não gostamos foi apenas o tamanho da pia do banheiro, muito pequena pro porte do hotel. Recomendo.

Gorgeous boutique hotel, staff were amazing, friendly and very helpful, highly recommended.

Stayed here for an event at York racecourse and booked very last minute but they were brilliant. Lovely place and room, I just hadn’t realised parking was round the back and couldn’t find it when arriving in the dark so if you’re staying here just drive round the back!

Lovely decor, super comfy beds and bed linen. New Holgate Hotel is immaculately clean and serves a great breakfast. A special thank you to Julie and Francesca who are so welcoming and helpful, as was the gentleman in Reception this afternoon. They are a credit to Rena the Manager.
