Excellent location and next to Galle face green. Very quiet with a commanding view of the sea. Breakfast has an excellent spread and the area is just next to the seafront. Staff are very courteous and helpful.

This is a heritage hotel and its got that classic charm, unfortunately it is let down by the fact that they don't have enough staff there to support the obviously high number of guests they receive. The staff work very hard and are an absolute delight, we original paid for a seaview room but they had 5 weddings taking place in one day which meant that it was extremely noisy. They moved us to another room which we appreciated but the building is very old and you can hear all the creaks so we were still disturbed by the wedding. I hope they hire more staff so people can experience this hotel in the way it's meant to be. We were in a triple room and the sofa bed was awfully uncomfortable to the extent that I ended up sleeping on the floor and paying for a massage at spa ceylon. I would like to reiterate that the staff are lovely and the variety of food is great but there are some things they can improve on. I would suggest staying here for one night just to say you've stayed here and then move on to Cinnamon Grand, Taj, ITC or Shangri-La.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a fantastic experience overall. The building is more than 150 years old and full of character, with a real sense of history and many renowned personalities having stayed here over the years. The age of the property does show through in places if you look closely, but this only adds to its charm rather than taking anything away from the stay. What truly makes this hotel special is the people. Every single member of staff I encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help, always with a smile. Their attitude and service turned a beautiful old hotel into a genuinely memorable experience. The only small criticism is that the menu could include more options for vegan guests. Expanding the vegan choices would make the dining experience even better and ensure that all dietary preferences are well catered for. Overall, this is a wonderful hotel that I would be very happy to return to and recommend to others.

A place with history, nice architecture. Very nice room with direct ocean facing window. Can open windows and stay off-aircon with fan. Nice small private beach and seawater pool to swim. Unfortunately the LED lighting in the rooms has flicker/strobe effects (reason is the cheapo ac/dc converters built into asian consumer grade lights), this has a subtile stress effect.

Unfortunately the LED lighting in the rooms has flicker/strobe effects (reason is the cheapo ac/dc converters built into asian consumer grade lights), this has a subtile stress effect.

We really loved our time here. The service was perfect and we loved the old charm, spaciousness and views, and the number of options for eating and cocktails. I would stay here again.
