The location, cleanliness

Lovely staff, great location. Room very cold, window rattled a lot which prevented sleeping well.

A little dissappointed with bathroom. needs bath removed & shower cubicle installed & either underfloor heating or warmer floor product. everything else about our stay was really great.

Walls in room were paper thin, could hear next doors snoring and talking. No hot water in shower. Ran out of Gluten Free bread at breakfast.

Such a shame. Lovely hotel in a central location. We had a lovely room on the top floor, but next to the restaurant's induction fan, which meant my wife barely slept all night. We mentioned to reception in the evening. Response was "we've never had complaints with this room before!" Not the attitude you would expect from reception staff. Manager said the induction fan would be switch off at 9.30, but it was on all night. Breakfast was over an hour wait in the morning too - hotel was fully booked and they couldn't cope. Management response to our complaint has been poor. Will prefer the Premier Inn next time - not worth the premium here - especially when you have to pay extra to park your car if you cant get in the tiny car park at the hotel.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good sized room in a great location. Lovely to have all the expected amenities including bath, hairdryer, wifi and tea and coffee. Only two gripes - I struggled to get more than a lukewarm shower, and there quite a lot of noise from within the hotel.

Great location and all staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and had all the amenities you culd need, including a bath. There was a fair bit of noise from within the hotel, mostly quite a noisy air-con unit and other guests. The only thing that let it down was a shower that struggled to get above lukewarm.

Staff very good but room tired, light in the cupboard hanging off and light over the dressing table not working until I screwed the bulb in properly. Shower was dripping continuously. Breakfast good but the couple we went with forgot to book breakfast when they booked and were told there wasn’t any availability on the Sunday morning so ended up going up the road to a cafe, while we had breakfast in the hotel. Not a good way to start our group day in Canterbury!

Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was clean and had everything we needed, the comfort of the bed was exceptional, great nights sleep!! All in all a lovely stay and we would recommend the Abode in Canterbury.

Bed was too soft, bathroom too small for a 4 star hotel. Staff were friendly and check in and out were easy.

Staff were friendly, the room was freezing on arrival, the plug sockets didn't work either side of the bed which was frustrating as like to have phone next to me and charging. Wanted to be able to have a drink in the bar after the panto but no where to sit, breakfast took forever

Whilst the room was clean and tidy, we couldn't get anything other than luke warm water out of the shower. Breakfast was included and we had to chase one of the items, only to be told they'd run out and then a few minutes later it turns up. Would I stay here again, no.

No hot water, half the menu unavailable in the brasserie, breakfast was the same.

Staff were friendly and helpful, bed super comfy, however upon check in I was assured (I specifically asked) that one of the two rooms was a twin, it was not. Told the bed could be split, it could not. Only other twin was smaller room with disability bathroom that was not acceptable, so two adult daughters ended up sharing a bed. To top it off the fire alarm repeatedly malfunctioned through the night, midnight, 2 am, 4 am so zero sleep. My concern of a lack of functioning fire alarm did not appear to be shared so stopped phoning the front desk to enquire if we should be leaving rooms. Technician was apparently coming from Ipswich… On check out I was assured someone would be in touch to discuss but this has not occurred. Over £400 for 1 night + food and drink, definitely not value for money. On the topic of food, we also booked a Brasserie Lunch as a celebration but when we arrived at the hotel we were told brasserie wasn’t open for lunch and our meal was in the small bar area on a small round table. Again not great and not what we’d booked. Put a dampener on what was a very special family occasion.

Room required some updating. Mattress was in poor condition. Amenities could be improved. No heating on in room for arrival so took ages to heat up. Staff friendly but no apologies for the disturbed sleep due to fire alarm going off about 6 times during the first night. Some breakfast buffet items (cereal etc) should be available for self service as these were not an option on the table service that is provided, just a cooked menu available. Location though is perfect for a visit to Canterbury.

Very Disappointing Stay – Standards Have Really Dropped We’ve stayed at this hotel several times, but this visit was extremely disappointing. From the start, our rooms were mixed up. The second room had a bed in two halves, leaving a gap that the mattress sank into, and the pillows were thin, grubby, and uncomfortable. When we returned to the room at 3pm, it still hadn’t been cleaned. The lady who checked us in seemed uninterested and barely provided any information unless we asked directly. To make things worse, on our second night the fire alarm went off intermittently until after 4am. No communication or updates were given to guests at any point. When we mentioned it to the manager in the morning, he was flippant and dismissive—apparently because he’d been called in at 3am. Unfortunately, we were the ones who paid for a completely disrupted night’s sleep. Breakfast service was poor as well. We waited 40 minutes just for coffee and had to get our own juice. Overall, the hotel has become grubby, the service has declined, and our experience was far below the standard we previously enjoyed. Sadly, I would no longer recommend staying here.
