Barceló Maya Palace - All Inclusive

I was promised I would get a room upgrde but that did not happen even though they had availability. They asked Expedia to contact the property. I reached out to Expedia and the supervisor told me that they have reached out but the reservation office confirmed there was no contact. I reached out Expedia 6 times but there was no luck to get me to speak the manager.

Great beach and pool. Lots to do for the whole family

This was trip #4 for us, and as we’ve found in the past, it was another wonderful stay at the Barceló resort. This was our first stay in the Palace section, and we are still having discussions about which section we like the best. (we’ve stayed Beach, Caribe and Colonial on prior trips) The Palace was lovely, but we all really enjoyed the central location on the resort of the Caribe & the Colonial sections & our kids loved the large balcony of our room at the Caribe, they voted Caribe as their favourite section. The extra dinner locations, the Palace pool, & additional theatre to chose your evening entertainment from, were all added advantages for the Palace, but in the end I think we agreed that unless we were getting the Palace as the best price, we would choose Caribe as our favourite section. We always stay premium and enjoy the premium room locations, the staff in the premium lounges, & never have issues with dinner reservations. The pool at the Palace was an amazing draw for our family & it did not disappoint! It was a fun space. We rode the red double decker buses more on this trip then any other. The Palace is further away from things (& we had grandparents with us). The bus is fun so we didn’t mind. Ember Shores was at the resort during our trip. It made us thankful that we were at the Palace and far away from the thumping (of the music). We would not have been happy at the Caribe while this event was happening.

Pool was ice cold

Rooms were great, staff was friendly and so helpful, food was amazing especially at the Al a’cart restaurants, lots of iguanas and gecko’s, great pools and swim up bars. Beaches were great and ocean is teaming with fish making snorkeling the best.

Biggest compliment about this place is the food. Very bar

Kids had a great time enjoying the resort amenities. Rooms were clean and food was good. Staff were helpful and snorkeling off beach was fantastic.

The resort was great, the room was left to be desired. One of the sinks was broken all week despite advising staff, the cleaning staff did not show up every day, the air conditioning is not the greatest and the room remains incredibly damp regardless of what you do.

The only thing that I didn't like was allowing smoking. Sometimes people were smoking on the beach and near the pool. Last year's it wasn't allowed.

Rooms are clean, and spacious Beds are comfy and they provide lots of pillows Staff are very diligent and friendly Beach is amazing, with lots of fish and turtles

The staff for most part were great! The resort is beautiful! However it’s too bad they can’t take something like a recent hip replacement my husband had, our room was very far away….we were travelling with 2 other reservations. We booked very far in advance, requesting rooms closer to our daughter and family, this was before we even knew about surgery. We were in different building at end so it was a hardship 😔

Beach was great

The worst two things about this hotel are: 1. The room is extremely humid, making everything, including your blankets and mattress, wet and soggy. Even your clothes never dry after getting wet. I was relieved to only book four nights because I couldn’t stand staying in that room. To make matters worse, the room doesn’t have any ventilation. After showering, my phone, which didn’t touch water, couldn’t charge because of the water inside. 2. The service clerks’ English is so bad that it’s difficult to communicate with them. I asked where I could book a shuttle, and she said downstairs. That’s it! She didn’t give me any directions, tell me which floor it was, or explain why the front desk couldn’t help us book the shuttle. We figured out that it was because my hotel was booked through Expedia, so they don’t serve us. We went to downstairs and try to find the agent twice but never seen him onsite. Turns out I have to book online myself. Airport transportation or any other transportations to theme parks has to be self managed. The bracelet for the room key is so weak that it breaks in a few days, and you’ll likely lose it and have to pay for penalties. The swimming pool area and Beach also have no life jackets. You either bring your own or buy one on-site.
