The location of the hotel is perfectly placed to walk into York town centre. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful and allowed us to check in early. Our room was small but very clean with a comfortable bed, the shower was particularly nice. The common areas were beautifully decorated and spacious.

I loved the proximity to the train station, perfect location to visit York for the first time, staff were lovely. Room was clean, bed was very comfy. My room didnt get much sunlight, but it is a period building with small windows. Shower was spacious, but I couldnt figure out how to use it properly, also instructions for the aircon would be helpful. I plan to return, and to stay longer next time.

Spacious room with view towards the Minster. Everything in the hotel was spotless and well maintained . Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We also had dinner which was lovely and well presented . All the staff we met on our visit couldn't have been nicer or more helpful .

A wonderful building and a beautiful interior, very nice bathroom and spacious bedroom, though we booked cozy double and the bed was a bit small for two plus we could hear the neighbours, next time I would book a bigger room facing garden, not the street. Breakfast is nice if you like, traditional English one. Everything you want to see in York is 10 min walk away, great location.

Clean room, helpful staff, lovely bar and spa, lovely air con.
Only couple of problems, one is need more plug sockets only 4 sockets which one had lamp plugged and the other for kettle. Had to move table to put kettle on near to a plug socket, table was heavy to move. Also stopped in disable room, the room was a distant away from main entrance which, I can't walk very far so wasn't very disabled friendly.

This hotel is beautiful. We originally booked a standard room which was tiny and had the most uncomfortable bed. The toilet was so close to the door the toilet roll holder was jammed to your leg and we are fairly average sized people. We decided to upgrade for the 2nd night and got a King deluxe which was amazing with a favourite roll top bath and separate shower. Much more spacious and the bed was firm but much better than the previous bed. Unfortunately the A/C wasn't working and made a regular weird noise but that didn't spoil our stay.
The cream tea in The Garden Room was the best one we had in York. Delicious. Overall I would recommend but don't stay in a standard room as they are tiny!

A classic railway hotel. I had an amazing view of York Minster from my room. Excellent pool & leisure suite. Very good breakfasts.The lifts were broken, which was a problem for the less mobile.

No porter service or ramp to get your case up the first 10 steps to reception. Internal lift not working all weekend. Room key stopped working so down and back up the steps you go again - no apology.
Room not serviced despite being out between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Couldn’t get a drink in the Garden Room - told by reception they were too short staffed!
View from the room should have been to the city and the Minster but heavy scaffolding ruined this.
Beautiful building and interior ruined by terrible service. Staff will walk past you lugging your bags up and down the stairs and not even look you in the eye or greet you, let alone offer to help.
There are other hotels near the station which I will try next time.

This was the 4th hotel in York I'd tried over a few months. Overall I felt the most comfortable and considered it best value. The classic appeal and atmosphere was very enjoyable.
Being adjacent to the railway station was a massive advantage with access slmost off the platform.

Perfectly located right by the train station for rail links and also a very short walk into the beautiful city centre.
The hotel is stunning inside and out.
Our room was clean but sadly the air con had a mind of its own and would almost “flush” every hour, which woke me every hour in the night, that combined with the vibration of the fridge in the wardrobe, it wasn’t the best nights sleep.
Breakfast was delicious and fresh.

An excellent experience. Stayed on a Sunday night and the hotel was fairly quiet so was upgraded to a suite which was fabulous. My daughter is at York University so we have been frequent visitors and generally stay here. It felt therefore like a reward for our frequent visits which made me feel like a valued guest!

We had the Accessibility Rooms and it was a sad sight to see. The ADA rooms were in the basement and given the bathroom restraints there was a wet/mildew smell throughout not just our rooms but the whole level since there is not a lot ventilation. It made the room experience terrible. That said the rest of the common areas were well kept and represented the luxury experience that was expected along with the attitude and service of the staff.
