Good: The hotel is well located and impressive in its public areas. All the staff are friendly and polite The breakfast is very good Not so good: The room itself was not too impressive. The room was stuffy, safe didn’t work, and the shower was a trickle. Overall location 10 out of 10 so if you are out and about exploring York all day and arriving/departing by train it would be good choice. If you want to relax in your room then I would recommend a different room category or another hotel.

I will not recommend this hotel to even my worst enemy. Firstly, hotel exterior is doing major renovations causing ALOT of inconveniences when you are getting to and fro the hotel. Secondly, the hotel only has ONE operational lift serving 155 rooms!! There’s always an insane line waiting for the lift and once I had to wait up to 25 minutes cause the lift is tiny and can only fit 3 people at one time. There are also a whole lot of stairs everywhere and there is nobody helping with bags. The most angry thing is that I have requested for a late check out for both of my booked rooms, which was agreed upon. But at 10.50am, ten minutes before the official check out time, my parents were chased out of their rooms by the housekeeper who claims that they needed to clean the room for the next guest! So my parents were left stranded in the corridor for 30 minutes. It’s absolutely disgusting and regarding the issue. the Indian manager only said to me “sorry probably a new chamber maid”. Absolutely no service recovery and not an ounce of compassion in anyone. Worst hospitality in the whole UK hands down.

This beautiful old building is such a lovely place to stay in York. The staff can’t do enough for you and the bedrooms are well equipped and very comfortable. The location for the Train station is perfect and It’s just a short walk into the city. Would highly recommend.

Hotel was ok but there’s all roadworks being done around the property. We booked for the swimming pool but it was all shut and disappointed this wasn’t mentioned when booking

We had a wonderful stay however the fridge was quite noisy when trying to go to bed.

No as the spa was closed, was looking forward to it . I should have been aware of this Especially the amount i paid

Our stay overall was lovely albeit at the start we had no wifi, couldnt get tv channels and had to move rooms late at night due to water dripping through the ceiling. We rang to reception at each time and staff were fab! Especially Lisa, she went above and beyond! Lovely hotel

We had the most gorgeous stay… staff were really helpful. Our suite was gorgeous. Easy and convenient for York city centre and walking everywhere. Will 100% be back! Thank you

We’d planned this special trip for a while and so were very disappointed to see the spa closed during our stay and we were given quite a ‘tired’ room down in the basement, which felt isolated from the main hotel. Overall a very underwhelming visit.

Unable to use the spa due to maintenance

A decent sized twin room, nice shower. Not far from city centre and ideal if arriving by train as it's next to the railway station. Disappointed that the swimming pool wasn't open.

If travelling by train location is, of course, excellent. The building is old but that is part of its charm and it is well maintained. Very spacious and quite impressive.
