Almaty International Airport is Kazakhstan's busiest airport and the country's main gateway to the world. Use this page to compare airlines flying in and out of Almaty (ALA) and set a Price Alert on Traveloka to keep track of fares before you book.
Almaty International Airport lies around 15 km (about a 30-minute drive) from the city centre. It's the largest and busiest airport in Kazakhstan, handling roughly 11.9 million passengers in 2025. A new terminal opened in June 2024 lifted the airport's annual capacity to around 14 million passengers, reflecting Almaty's growing role as a hub along the modern Silk Road between Europe, the Middle East and East Asia.
ALA serves around 148 scheduled routes to 106 destinations in 39 countries via 52 airlines. Key international connections include Frankfurt and London in Europe, Dubai and Doha in the Middle East, Beijing, Seoul and Bangkok in Asia, and frequent services to Moscow, plus regional links to Tashkent, Bishkek, Baku and Tbilisi. Domestic routes connect Almaty to cities across Kazakhstan.
Air Astana is based at Almaty and is by far the largest carrier here, operating around 259 scheduled departures a week. Its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan also operates from the airport, alongside dozens of international airlines connecting Almaty to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The airport operates two passenger terminals: T1 handles domestic flights, while T2, expanded in 2024, handles international routes. Check which terminal your flight uses before you travel, especially if you're connecting between a domestic and an international service.
Public bus routes, including route 92, connect the airport to central Almaty in around 45 minutes. There is currently no direct rail link to the airport, though airport buses stop near Almaty-2 railway station in the city centre. Taxis and rideshare services take around 30 minutes to the centre and are readily available outside both terminals.
As a major international hub, Almaty offers a full range of traveller facilities: airline and pay-per-use lounges, duty-free shopping, a wide choice of dining options, currency exchange, ATMs and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminals.
