Disappointing Return to a Once-Loved Exeter Landmark As someone who grew up in Exeter, the Rougemont Hotel held a certain prestige in my mind. It was always known as an upmarket establishment, synonymous with quality service and a touch of elegance. Sadly, my recent stay has revealed a noticeable decline from this long-held perception, resulting in a less than perfect experience. Firstly, the change of name to "Sunday" was surprisingly disorienting. For someone who is neurodivergent, this unexpected alteration caused unnecessary panic and confusion upon arrival, making me question if I had booked the correct hotel. Renaming such an iconic venue with a completely different and somewhat generic name seems a poor choice and risks losing the historical recognition it once held. The state of the room itself was also disappointing. Dust was evident on various surfaces, including the bathroom mirrors and the television screen. More concerning was the cleanliness of the toilet. There was no toilet brush provided, and despite the room supposedly being cleaned, there were still dirty marks in the pan. Additionally, the toilet seat cover was marred with mottled stains, seemingly remnants of old cleaning products, indicating a lack of thoroughness. The breakfast experience further added to the disappointment. Priced at a level that suggested a premium offering, the lack of basic options like eggs or mushrooms was surprising and underwhelming. Was greeted with a warm welcome, staff were courteous and polite. Check-in was easy. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable with nice crisp sheets. Bathroom was modern and clean. Nice modern shower, (although it had to run for a long time before it got warm). Hairdryer and iron in room. Tea/coffee making facilities. All good. Very pleasant stay. On checking out reception staff kindly allowed me to leave my overnight bag whilst I explored the City.

The staff were super helpful. The room was clean and carefully prepared. It’s right opposite the station with shops and busies right there. Staff let me leave my suitcase after check out so I could have a final day exploring. Excellent 👌 service.

Generally good, bed comfortable, clean room but breakfast quality not great. Hot food counter was lukewarm and not kept supplied.

Excellent hotel

Lovely hotel housed in a beautiful building. Some of the decor was a bit tired but they are working on improving that. Staff were very professional and friendly. Unfortunately we had very inconsiderate neighbours who came back to their rooms at 4am and made a lot of noise waking us up and preventing us from going back to sleep quickly but this obviously was nothing to do with the hotel itself. I would definitely revisit.

Room clean and comfy. Shame there was a do on which made it a little noisy. We were put in quieter area of the hotel but were still affected.

Location was excellent nothing else, toilet were not clean enough, dirty towels. Bedsheet was poor, Matress was uncomfortable and central heating was dirty. I will not stay at this hotel again.

The service received from night staff on arrival and Lucy during the day was first class.

Great location, good price booked early. Parking limited, but did manage to get a space.

The host a lot of large parties. Lobby filled with party goers on the weekends.

A good place to stay if you need to grab the train. Walkable in town and food options. Everything was sufficient. Slept well.

Ideal central location nr the city centre, spotlessly clesn run by an amazing team of staff and manager's who could not be more helpful

Good Hotel

Good value (for toom only) and superb location. Main let down was an overpriced and low quality breakfast. Hot food was luke warm and I expected more for a premium charge (£17!!).

I've stayed at the Rougemont several times and will again. Its very easy & convenient.

This is such a great hotel! Brilliant location and beautiful building. What a find!
