Clean, but the carpets in the public areas need replacing. This really undermined the quality feel of the hotel. One of the receptionists deliberately misled me about the room she allocated to me, but the other (the Hispanic looking woman) was very helpful and sorted out the problem by giving me a different room. I booked a room with a double bed and checked with the first receptionist that my room did have a double bed. She confirmed, but it had two singles! I cannot understand what was going on. Was she so lazy she couldn’t be bothered to hit some keyboard keys? This happened Sunday 24th May going into Monday 25th 2026; if management are interested

Overall our stay was OK - what wasn't great was when we arrived the lift was still out of service and we were on the third floor, with heavy bags and someone with asthma. The room was, again, OK - hadn't been cleaned properly though with dust along the bar behind the bed and a big brown stain on the floor to the right. We also only had one towel for the bathroom/shower so had to share that in the morning. It was great for being central in Exeter and handy to park in the front, but I probably wouldn't stay here again.

I would say the photo's oversell this. The rooms are spacious, but walls thin so you can hear everything next door. my 'double room' was in fact 2 singles pushed together, 1 of which was broken and the bathroom was outdated to say the least. On arrival, the guy behind the desk was just talking over us and rushing. It wasnt awful, but wouldnt be rushing back sadly

Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Hotel is older, characterful building but has parking (on the expensive side) but good for central city. Unfortunately the lift was out of operation for our stay but they did contact us beforehand to let us know. Booked a standard double but was given a king, room was hot but able to turn radiator off and open the windows. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, could have done with the fan working. No fridge in the room but there was a safe, an iron & ironing board, hairdryer and kettle with tea/coffee supplied. Can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there. Some things in need of refurb/update, curtains had small holes in them, window glazing was a little rickety, but overall would stay again.

Everything was good during our stay except perhaps breakfast. I had the full English which was nice but my wife went for the continental, this was poor for the choice of food set out. Only filter coffee available no real choice of cereals or pastries. Disappointed overall with the experience of breakfast.
