Lovely central setting. Some areas of the hotel looking tired, a refresh would be beneficial. But overall very good. Breakfast and evening meal was very nice

Good stay in a very tired hotel, when we checked in, the male receptionist was not very welcoming, not a good start. Great room, great view through the patio door along with a great draughty through the doors. Lack of st@ff meant we didn’t get out room cleaned for 4 days, also on website they advertised extra things at breakfast. Omelets, kippers etc. in reality, they didn’t domomelets as they only had one chef, at night for evening meal, still only one chef, a choice of 3 staters, 3 mains and 3 puddings. Not very good for a 3 star hotel that charged 4 star prices. We went for my 80th birthday, unknown to me my wife phoned them to ask if they could put balloons and decorate the table for breakfast on my birthday, this did not happen, she asked at reception and there was nothing on their computer about that. She was very dis appointed. I doubt very much if we would go back.

The history of the property was interesting, maintaining some of the old world charm. It did look a bit run down in our room. A mini fridge in the room would have been useful.

I booked a superior room after seeing the photos on line and was looking forward to our 2 night stay, yet on arrival were given a significantly smaller basic room, after being told we had been given a free upgrade so i was thinking SUITE! So it was really disappointing, after enquiring why our upgrade was a downgrade, we were eventually moved to a slightly bigger room, but not what i thought id booked. Staff were fine, bar was decent, bedrooms are a little tired.Photos definitely misleading!

Very spacious room, very clean, just a bit dated. Shame the car parking was chargable, but room rate reasonable so not too much of an issue overall.

I booked a Superior Twin room with a sea view but I wasn’t impressed with the room one bit. I’m not sure what was superior about it. I have previously stayed in a superior double here before and it was noticeable superior so I can only assume I was given a standard room. The doors to the rooms are a bit clunky and I could hear other doors closing, and I could also hear dogs barking in nearby rooms - and I can’t believe the hotel would allow dogs in a Superior Room. In fact there seemed to be several dogs in the hotel including a couple of large mountain dogs, and there were two dog water bowls in the bar area - which I found totally unacceptable. Breakfast was okay but I’ve previously stayed in 4 other hotels in Exmouth which all served a nicer, and freshly cooked breakfast, so by contrast the Imperial Hotel breakfast is bottom of the list. The hotel bar didn’t seem to have any decent ales on offer so I didn’t use it. The garden and sea views are nice, and the car park is a plus, but parking is £6 per night. The assessable lift was out of order for the duration of our visit.

Overall a good property just a little tired but only needs a bit of updating . Such as a new and more modern mirror in the bathroom of our room. And the veranda in that room needs tiling.

Loved the views from the bedroom window and the location was excellent. Service was excellent. Some parts of the hotel looked a little tired and ready for decorating or refurbishment
