Kiaracondong Train Station

Kiaracondong Station is one of the major stations in Bandung, located at the border of Babakansari and Kebunjayanti neighborhoods. This station serves various classes of trains, including economy, business, and executive. Just like Bandung Station, Kiaracondong Station also operates multiple routes daily. As the easternmost point of the double track in the Bandung metropolitan area (Padalarang - Cicalengka), mixed-class trains also pick up and drop off passengers at Kiaracondong Station, whether traveling to or from Bandung. Therefore, Kiaracondong Station serves as the second point of departure and arrival in Bandung.

Similar to many stations on Java Island, Kiaracondong Station was built by the Dutch East Indies railway company, Staatsspoorwegen, around 1894. Initially, the route constructed by the colonial government at that time was Padalarang - Bandung - Kiaracondong. Kiaracondong Station has two entrances: the north and south wings. The northern entrance is more frequently used due to the parking facilities available there.

Interesting Facts About Kiaracondong

There used to be a branch line to Ciwidey

Initially, there was a branch line to Ciwidey from Kiaracondong Station. Unfortunately, it is no longer in operation. This branch started from the west side of Kiaracondong Station. If there were a direct train to Ciwidey, it would certainly be more convenient for visitors traveling to many tourist attractions in Ciwidey.

Originally a small station

During the Dutch East Indies era, small stations were commonly referred to as "Stopplaats." These stops were very small, like bus shelters. In the past, Kiaracondong was merely a "Stopplaats" for larger train routes. However, as Bandung became one of the economic centers on Java Island, it was decided to upgrade Kiaracondong into a second station after Bandung Station.

Once had more passengers than Bandung Station

In the years 1950-1952, Kiaracondong Station once had more passengers than Bandung Station, which was the main station. However, in 1954, to improve passenger services, PT KAI, which was known as Djawatan Kereta Api at the time, introduced a classification system for stations into six classes, from Major Stations to Class 1-5 Stations. To this day, Kiaracondong Station is classified as a Class 2 Station.
