Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel

If you have longer stays (for example, mine was 12 days for a conference), this isn't the hotel for you, especially in the summer. There is no air conditioning. There was an unfortunate heatwave when I stayed there, which made the lack of A/C even more pronounced. My room was tiny with no bureau to put my clothes. I had to live out of my suitcase. The bed was hard, and the pillows were even harder. For the price I paid, I was surprised that the hotel was like this. Even the carpets in the hallways were stained. Perhaps it's an American thing, but for that long a stay, I would have liked to have had a mini-fridge in my room. They also do not provide ice. They do have tea and coffee in the room. The front desk staff was accommodating, but they didn't go above and beyond (rarely a smile). I added breakfast to my hotel fee each day. It wasn't bad. They will make you items à la carte if it isn't on the buffet. The staff in the breakfast area were very kind and accommodating. The hotel is within walking distance of most places in the town. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I probably wouldn't stay there again.

The hotel is lovely and in an excellent central location. The room was good & bed comfy but even though there was a fan on the room it was still unbearably hot (this was not during the heatwave either).

We travelled down the last week in June, a treat from our parents. Lovely hotel . Only fault I found was they did not have many choices, if any for people with food intolerance so we ate our breakfast elsewhere. Other than that was a great base, right in the centre of town 👍

Nice hotel and next to the train station for convenience. We had a really good experience.

Lovely big old style hotel entrance which we loved. Friendly staff, great welcome and spacious room with a comfy bed. Only downside was the breakfast. Disappointing for the money. No reflection on staff who were courteous, very efficient and friendly. We expected more choice from the self service continental and the cooked to order breakfast was just mediocre and the coffee horrible! Having said all of this we woukd definitely stay again but swerve the breakfast!

Only 4 stars for the lift still being out several days after notification (before my arrival) of its not working. I may be harsh considering it was a bank holiday weekend. Staff made bringing heavy bag upstairs possible by carrying it thank you. Some hall carpets might be tended to.

Our 3rd visit in three weeks. My husband was on an evening course so this is an ideal hotel. We came by train this time and it was easier than driving as Exeter Central is opposite the hotel. Usual friendly greeting at reception nothing is too much trouble. Nice clean room with a bath this time luxury for us as we don't have one at home. We visited Drskes this week, which is part of the hotel. It's a pleasant atmosphere and the drinks are reasonable. Checkout is 12pm but we had a train to catch do left earlier. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We arrived very early to get a parking space as parking is difficult otherwise. We were checked on later by a friendly receptionist who double checked our car registration ans showed us she'd entered it correctly on the computer. She asked if we wanted to book breakfast but we didn't. When she handed us the key we were surprised to find it was exactly the same room as the one we'd stayed in last week. Again it was clean, and spacious with a nice shower. Lovely building and very situated for all amenities

Only an overnight stay but the staff were very polite and knowledgeable of the local area.

Lovely hotel situated opposite Exeter Central railway station. There is parking @ £12.50 per night. We arrived at 12.30 to get a parking space, and although check in was 2pm the very help receptionist checked and said our room was ready. Lovely clean spacious room on tbe first floor with a good bathroom and excellent shower. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of bars cafes and restaurants. We would definitely stay again

Great location but very limited parking. Nice room. Good size and comfortable. The lift being out of order for such a long time is a major problem. All rooms are on the first floor or above.

Nice staff but the hotel and rooms are very run down and in desperate need of refurbishment. Stains in carpet. No air con. Rooms extremely hot and stuffy. Lift was also broken during our stay so had to walk up 4 flights of stairs in a heatwave. Would avoid in future unfortunately.

Room was a good size for the UK.

Clean, but the carpets in the public areas need replacing. This really undermined the quality feel of the hotel. One of the receptionists deliberately misled me about the room she allocated to me, but the other (the Hispanic looking woman) was very helpful and sorted out the problem by giving me a different room. I booked a room with a double bed and checked with the first receptionist that my room did have a double bed. She confirmed, but it had two singles! I cannot understand what was going on. Was she so lazy she couldn’t be bothered to hit some keyboard keys? This happened Sunday 24th May going into Monday 25th 2026; if management are interested

Every single floorboard in this hotel creaks very loudly.
