Poor attitude from staff to a group of disabled (visually impaired) guests with no reasonable adjustments to check in process. Dogmatic jobsworth staff at reception (though to be fair notably a manager stepped in effectively later and “took ownership” to resolve some issues and find the lost bag). Bag taken by porter to a room unconnected to the group and not found for several hours after a trawl of hotel CCTV. Deposit insisted on in case we used mini bar in the room but fridge broken and empty. Double occupancy couple put in single room and vice versa. Bedroom window propped open by a mug on the window sill (on the fourth floor in a room occupied by blind person) was an accident waiting to kill someone on the pavement outside. Very noisy rooms with obviously no soundproofing. Definitely not a hotel to ever use by any group organiser.

Hotel public areas good. Stayed here several times and it’s a lottery which rooms you receive. Some spacious and some very compact and overall a bit shabby now. Last nights stay was allocated attic type twin room. Very small and dated. Stay here for the location and ease of parking but really does require some updating and improvements now.

Staff were great. Lovely room but noisy. The room had had secondary glazing fitted, so they know the problem- but the glass was missing!! The settled down 3.30/4am so not a good night. Spa facilities were poor. Steam room only works sometimes and the seats have been repaired with some sort of duct tape! but the sauna was fine. Swimming pool was closed!

We stayed for 3 nights - the room wasn’t serviced until up to 5pm each day so we couldn’t relax in the way we wanted after a day exploring. Water/tea/milk/towels weren’t replenished so had to go down to reception and ask for replacements. We had a very cold room on the Saturday evening getting ready to go out and were told that the heating hadn’t been turned on until 7pm, even though it was 7 degrees outside. On the more positive side, the room was spacious and the bed was comfy.

So, you walk in through a glorious, grand Victorian Lobby, like something from the golden age of rail. And check in with helpful staff. Then walk to your room through the maze of coridoors that gradually shift to being like something from The Shining. The rooms are clean and tidy, but there is a lot of disrepair and a lot of money needs spending to fix a lot of minor issues. Also the plumbing is loud and makes all kind of ungodly noises. Finally, its clear the hotel is cheap and central enough that people use it when they are planning night out & dont want a taxi home. Yiu hear a lot of coming and going all night & I had one drunk couple try to draw me into their argument, only to later walk past them being arrested from within the hotel. Spend a bit of money, and this could be a great hotel. But right now its more than a little past its best
