Pasir Gudang is an industrial town located in the district of Mukim Plentong, Johor Bahru. It is made up of 100,000 people now. Pasir Gudang was previously founded by a man named Long Abu who originated from Riau, Indonesia. It used to be known as Kampung Pasir Gudang. The name came about through the existence of ‘sand mine’ at Kampung Ulu. Sand or 'pasir' in Malay are dug and stocked in sand pits/stores or 'gudang' in Malay, to be exported to Singapore, hence the name 'Pasir Gudang'.
The people of this city use Bahasa Melayu as their main form of communication. The people in this area consist of all the races such as Malay, Chinese and Indians. Therefore, this language is commonly known by all. Another language that is commonly used is English. These 2 languages help those of different background to communicate despite the differences.
How to Get There
By Plane
One can take a local flight such as AirAsia or Malaysia Airlines and Firefly and fly to Johor Bahru which is the capital of Johor. From there one may hire a taxi to go to Pasir Gudang. It may be a little expensive as it is quite far.
By Car
Those who are driving from Kuala Lumpur may take the North-South Expressway and head south towards Johor. By taking exit 256 it will head directly to Pasir Gudang.
By Bus
By going to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, one can get their tickets to Pasir Gudang from many companies. Among the bus companies available are Transnational and also Intercity.
