Savannakhet Airport is about 2 to 3 km from the centre. A tuk-tuk or car usually gets you into town in 10 to 15 minutes.
The IATA code is ZVK and the ICAO code is VLSK.
Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway both operate scheduled flights from Savannakhet.
Scheduled flights go to Wattay International Airport in Vientiane. From there you can connect to other destinations in Laos and abroad.
The flight takes about an hour, much quicker than travelling by road.
Yes. Kaysone Phomvihane is the official name of Savannakhet city, so both names point to the same place and the same airport.
Tuk-tuks are the most common option, and some hotels offer pickups. Agree on the tuk-tuk fare before the ride.

Savannakhet Airport, code ZVK, serves Savannakhet, the main city of southern-central Laos. The city sits on the Mekong River facing Mukdahan in Thailand, and its official name is Kaysone Phomvihane, although almost everyone still calls it Savannakhet. The airport is small and relaxed, with a single runway and a modest terminal.
Few airports are this close to town. The terminal is only about 2 to 3 km from the central streets, so a ride to most hotels takes around 10 to 15 minutes. You can be checking in at your guesthouse not long after the plane touches down.
The terminal handles a small number of flights each day, so queues are rarely long. Facilities are simple, with check-in desks and a waiting area. Do not count on a wide choice of food or shopping; the cafés in town are a better bet before you fly.
Scheduled flights link Savannakhet with Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, the capital. Two carriers fly the route: Lao Airlines, the national carrier, and the state-owned domestic airline Lao Skyway. The flight takes roughly an hour, which is far quicker than the long road journey north. From Vientiane you can connect to other cities in Laos and abroad.
The old town centre still has French colonial buildings, including the Saint Teresa church near the central square. The Savannakhet Dinosaur Museum displays fossils found in the province. A short drive northeast of the city, That Ing Hang is an important Buddhist stupa that draws pilgrims from across the region. For travel into Thailand, the Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge crosses the Mekong to Mukdahan.
Flight frequencies on the Vientiane route are limited, so check the current schedule before planning a same-day connection. Carry some Lao kip in cash for tuk-tuks, as card payment is not common for local transport.
