Kisaran is the capital of Asahan Regency, North Sumatra Province. The region is passed by the Cross Sumatra Highway and the Trans Sumatra Railway line. Kisaran borders a number of districts in Asahan Regency, namely Rawang Panca Arga, Air Joman, Pulo Bandring, and Sei Dadap.

Kisaran Station as the main station in the city is passed by two trains namely Sribilah Utama (Executive-Business) with Medan-Rantau Prapat route and Putri Deli (Economy) with Medan-Tanjungbalai route. Previously, there was a Sribilah Utama train whose status is currently temporarily stopped.
The station, which is included in the North Sumatra and Aceh Regional Division I area, has several facilities including a parking area, waiting room, ticket booking counter, VIP room, dining area, customer service, breastfeeding room, toilets, musala, and independent ticket printing.
Kisaran Station underwent renovations in 2015. Its current condition is good and its facilities are adequate. In addition to passenger trains, Kisaran Station also serves trains transporting palm oil to Belawan and Pertamina fuel transportation to Labuan.
