This station is on the easternmost side (as a replacement for Purworejo Station which is inactive) in the management of DAOP V Purwokerto, and is on the westernmost side under the operation of KAI Commuter Operations VI Yogyakarta.
Kutoarjo Station is the main and active station in the Purworejo Regency area, making it the final stop for several train travel relations, namely Kutojaya Utara train heading to Jakarta Kota Station and Sawunggalih train heading to Pasar Senen Station for the Central Java line.Â
In addition, on the southern Java route, the station serves Kutojaya Selatan train traveling to Kiaracondong Station, and Prambanan Ekspress (Prameks) train as a Commuter Line train service heading to Yogyakarta Station.Â

A distinctive feature of this station is the playing of the song Kicir-Kicir in the form of instrumental music for every incoming train, being the most important station that plays this song before being followed by Pasar Senen Station, Jakarta Kota, and Gambir Station.Â
