Tugu Station, which opened on May 2, 1887, was Yogyakarta's second train station after Lempuyangan Station. Initially, the railway line in Yogyakarta was established to transport farming goods from Central Java and its surrounding areas, connecting Yogyakarta to Solo and Semarang.
The station began hosting passenger trains in 1905. It has since grown into a significant hub with six train lines ferrying business and executive class passengers across Java. However, the line to Semarang via Magelang is no longer operational.
One unique feature of this station is its layout, with the building surrounded on two sides by platforms and train tracks. This design is typical for larger stations. The front and the main entrance of the station face east, towards Jalan Mangkubumi, the city's main road.
Apart from serving as a passenger stop, Yogyakarta Station also functions as a train maintenance site. The maintenance building is situated to the west of the station, separated from the main building and the passenger platforms by a small distance. The station offers amenities including waiting rooms, bathrooms, restaurants, prayer rooms, and booking services for hotels, cars, and motorcycles. There are also park areas and services that allow you to reserve H-30 tickets and direct tickets.
Surabaya Gubeng Station, the primary train station in East Java, serves as the departure point for southern-route trains. Trains traveling north to Jakarta via Semarang depart from Pasar Turi Station. Gubeng Station, which was initially located west of the railway tracks, was extended eastward with new, spacious buildings in the mid-1990s.
Gubeng Station has six main lines. Line 1, the westernmost, is for southbound economy train departures, while Line 2 handles arrivals. Logawa, Sri Tanjung, and Penataran Icon trains use lines 3 and 4 for locomotive changes, while freight trains also use these lines. Line 5 carries freight trains from Bandung to Mutiara Selatan. Line 6, the easternmost line, caters to business and executive trains, with a branch to Balai Yasa (BY)/Surabaya Gubeng railway workshop.
The newly-built Surabaya Gubeng Baru Station, located east of the main station, serves business and executive class trains traveling to Jakarta, Bandung, and Banyuwangi. The station features wider seats with smartphone chargers, a children's play area with traditional Indonesian toys, restrooms, and a health post.
Lamongan Station, situated in Sidokumpul, East Java, Lamongan Regency, is managed by Surabaya Operational Area VIII. This class I train station provides both economy and executive long-distance train services, along with local commuter services to Surabaya. It features three platforms and four railway lines.
The station is equipped with a parking area, a self-service ticket printing machine, a waiting area, a counter service, an information center, and a prayer room. It also offers restrooms, a commercial section with shops, a breastfeeding room, and battery charging stations for convenience.
The train journey from Surabaya to Lamongan takes approximately 35 minutes, covering a distance of around 45 kilometers. For the best deals, consider purchasing tickets for Rp5,000, especially when ordering online. The first train departs at 10:28 WIB and the last one at 18:30 WIB for your convenience.
This rail route is particularly popular among travelers returning home before Ramadan. Surabaya boasts stunning attractions including parks, waterfalls, mountains, lakes, and hills. The journey from Surabaya to Lamongan offers breathtaking scenery. Depart in the morning or afternoon to witness the beauty of the rice fields and majestic mountains along the route. This short trip is filled with awe-inspiring natural beauty.
