Kota Tinggi is a town and the capital of Kota Tinggi District, Johor. It is located around 42 kilometers north east of Johor Bahru, on the road to Mersing. This little town is known for its rich history. It is mainly because of the Sultanate of Johor that was established in Kota Tinggi itself.

Visitors can also find many different historical tombs here including the tombs of the famous Sultan Mahmud Mangkat Di Julang Mausoleum, Makam Bendahara Tun Habib Abdul Majib and Makam Tauhid in Kampung Makam. How to Get There

By Bus

You can go to Kota Tinggi by bus. You can take a bus either from any inter-state bus station provided. If you take buses from the north like Perak, Kedah, Perlis and so on, your travel duration may be estimated to take between 5 to 6 hours depending on the location.

By Car

You can also drive there. The travel duration is similar to if you are taking a bus. If you drive north, it may take about 5 to 6 hours to arrive. Like buses too, the travel duration can change based on the starting point of your journey and the traffic situation at that time can also play a role.

Tourist attractions

Kota Tinggi Museum

Built in 1997, this museum was only open to the public in 2002. Visitors can find artifacts traced back to the glory days of the Johor Sultanate, which started soon after the Malaccan empire fell to the Portuguese in 1511. A walk in this 2 story building will bring you past a collection of rare exhibits from the 19th century to the present, including century- old porcelain, huge canvas paintings, ancient musical instruments and once- victorious weapons.

Kota Tinggi Waterfall

The waterfalls are located at the foot of Mount Muntahak. It cascades down some 34 meters from the mountain. The natural beauty of the area is refreshing, and provides an escape for busy city-goers. The cooling river waters also provide an ideal place for swimming, and a nice spot for picnics. It is a great place for nature lovers who often spot birds, and numerous insects around the area. Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm

Mr Ng, Malaysia’s own Crocodile Hunter and third-generation crocodile farmer, brings visitors on a tour around this farm that houses more than 1000 crocs. You can even find a toothless 130-year-old croc passed on from his grandfather. Past its prime, this geriatric prefers to spend its golden years sunbathing rather than scaring away the visitors. The crocs here are of the saltwater crocodile species (Crocodylus Porosus). As you venture deeper into the farm, you may notice that the crocodiles keep getting bigger.
