Our first time in Batu, we stayed at the Golden Tulip Holland Resort. The place is beautiful, spacious, and clean. There are two breakfast restaurants with a variety of dishes, Western and Indonesian. The food is delicious, and the staff is friendly. There are electric scooters provided in the hotel lobby for exploring the area. We especially enjoyed eating at the Skydome. During our two-night stay at the Golden Tulip, we had dinner at the Skydome. The place is certainly Instagrammable, and the food was delicious and generous.

The hotel is located in one of the largest malls in Malang. It's close to other places like culinary delights and tourist attractions. The service is good and the rooms are clean. If you're going on a Bromo trip, you can be picked up from here, and upon returning from your trip, you'll still be given a late check-out period of 12:30 PM. This was my experience yesterday. It was very helpful, allowing us to shower and clean up before checking out. Overall, this is a good and comfortable hotel for your stay.

My first impression upon arriving at this hotel was the incredibly calming vibe... I wanted to stay here for a long time. The staff were also very friendly. While waiting to check in, I was able to enjoy the hotel facilities, so the kids wouldn't get bored. The swimming pool, although not large, had a really nice atmosphere. And while the kids were swimming, we could also order delicious food at the restaurant. Oh yeah, it's also just a short walk to Batu Mall, so it was really nice to stay here 😍 Keep up the good work, Samara Hotel, I'll definitely be back soon!

A Culinary Journey Through Tajinan

Tajinan's culinary landscape is a vibrant reflection of Indonesia's rich gastronomic heritage, offering a delightful array of flavours and textures that promise to tantalize the taste buds of international visitors. From the fiery kick of local sambals to the comforting embrace of traditional rice dishes, the region presents a diverse menu that is both accessible and exciting. Exploring these local tastes is an integral part of the Tajinan experience, providing a delicious insight into the local culture.

The region is particularly celebrated for dishes that showcase fresh, local ingredients prepared with time-honoured techniques. Expect to find an abundance of flavourful noodle dishes, grilled meats, and fresh seafood, often infused with aromatic spices unique to Indonesian cuisine. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified eateries is generally straightforward, as Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country, and most restaurants and food stalls adhere to Halal practices, ensuring a comfortable dining experience for all.

Dining in Tajinan offers remarkable value for money, especially when compared to Western standards. Street food and local warungs (small eateries) can provide a filling and delicious meal for as little as ₱50-₱100 (approximately $1-2 USD). Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱200-₱500 (approximately $4-10 USD) per person for a full meal, while upscale dining experiences might range from ₱700-₱1,500 (approximately $14-30 USD) or more. This affordability allows travellers to explore a wide variety of culinary options.

When dining in Tajinan, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are often communal, and it's polite to try a bit of everything offered. Tipping is not customary in most local eateries, though a small gratuity may be appreciated in high-end restaurants. Familiarize yourself with basic Indonesian phrases for ordering, and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations. Observing local dining etiquette, such as eating with the right hand, will be appreciated by your hosts.

Navigating Local Customs and Ensuring Safety in Tajinan

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a smooth and enriching travel experience in Tajinan. While Indonesians are generally welcoming and forgiving of minor cultural missteps, being aware of certain social norms can prevent misunderstandings and foster positive interactions. The region, like much of Indonesia, values politeness, respect for elders, and a generally harmonious social atmosphere.

When visiting religious sites or more traditional communities within Tajinan, modest dress is essential. This typically means covering shoulders and knees. Always ask permission before taking photographs of people, especially in rural areas or during religious ceremonies. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and it's advisable to maintain a respectful demeanor in public spaces. Understanding these nuances will help you navigate social situations with grace.

Safety in Tajinan is generally good, with petty crime being the most common concern, particularly in crowded markets or tourist areas. It's wise to keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings. For transportation, ride-sharing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a reliable and affordable way to get around. For emergencies, local police numbers are readily accessible, and it's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and theft.

For Filipino travellers, it's important to note that the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia is located in Jakarta. In case of emergencies, contacting the embassy or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) can provide assistance. Health-wise, it's advisable to drink bottled water and be cautious with street food if you have a sensitive stomach. Consulting your doctor about necessary vaccinations before your trip is also a prudent step for a healthy journey.

Your Essential Travel Guide to Tajinan

Reaching Tajinan from the Philippines is a journey that typically involves a flight to one of Indonesia's major international hubs, followed by a domestic connection. Flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) to Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB) are common, with onward connections to Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (MLG) near Malang, the closest airport serving Tajinan. Direct flights are rare, so expect at least one layover, with total travel time ranging from 8 to 15 hours depending on the connection. Prices can vary significantly, but budget around ₱15,000-₱30,000 for a round trip.

Once you arrive at Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (MLG), the most convenient way to reach Tajinan and its surrounding areas is by taxi or a pre-booked ride-sharing service. The journey to the main city of Malang takes about 30-45 minutes, while reaching the Batu area might take 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Within Tajinan, local transport options include 'angkot' (minibuses), taxis, and ride-sharing apps, which are generally affordable and efficient for navigating between neighbourhoods and attractions.

The best time to visit Tajinan is generally during the dry season, from May to September. This period offers pleasant weather with less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring outdoor attractions and enjoying the region's natural beauty. While this is also the peak tourist season, leading to potentially higher prices and more crowds, visiting during the shoulder months of May or September can offer a good balance. For travellers from the US, Europe, and India, these months often align with favourable holiday periods.

Before you depart for Tajinan, ensure you have your passport, which must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While credit cards are accepted in larger hotels and establishments, carrying some cash is essential for smaller vendors and local transport. Consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival for easy data access. Essential apps include Google Maps, a translation app, and ride-sharing applications.

Visa Information for Entering Indonesia to Visit Tajinan

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Tajinan, understanding Indonesia's visa policy is crucial. Fortunately, Indonesia offers visa-free entry for short stays for citizens of the Philippines. This allows for stays of up to 30 days without the need for a pre-arranged visa, making travel planning significantly simpler. It is essential to ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Indonesia.

The visa-free facility for Philippine citizens typically covers tourism and short business trips. While no visa fee is charged for this entry, it is imperative to adhere to the permitted duration of stay. Overstaying can result in penalties, including fines or deportation. It is always recommended to confirm the latest regulations with the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines or the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia before your travel dates, as policies can be subject to change.

While the visa-free entry simplifies the process, it is still advisable to have supporting documents readily available. This may include proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Indonesia. Although not always requested, having hotel bookings or an itinerary can also be beneficial. Confirming these requirements with official sources before you book flight tickets is a prudent step.
