Banyubiru Train is a train transportation service offering executive and economic classes. This transportation service is operated by the Indonesian Railway Company (known as KAI) and connects the Semarang Tawang-Solo Balapan route. The name “Banyu Biru” came from one of the subdistricts with a similar name in Semarang District.
Before the Banyubiru train was operated again, it was a previously used Indonesian Diesel rail train (KRDI) made by PT INKA in 2008. This Indonesia diesel train began its operation on December 19th, 2008 with the Semarang Tawang- Yogyakarta route through Solo Balapan. Banyubiru Indonesian diesel train service was stopped on July 25th, 2013.
Nowadays, the Banyubiru train has operated again by using loaned coaches from inactive depo in Semarang Tawang train sub depo and Solo Balapan train depo. For a morning trip, Blambangan Express train coaches were used, while for an afternoon trip is Joglosemarkerto train coaches.
Banyubiru Train consists of 4 executive coaches with 3 economic trains ( 2-2 seats) with 440 seats total for one trip. The seat formation in an economic class is set by using a 2-2 facing each other and a non-rotatable seat type. The difference between the economic class in the Banyubiru train and with economic class on another train is the seat doesn’t use a 3-2 system, thus making the passenger feel comfortable during a long trip with its wide gap.
On the other hand, one executive coach can afford 52 passengers maximum. The executive class on the Banyubiru Train is also equipped with comfortable seats, a wider gap for each seat, a leg massager, television, AC, and wi-fi access. The executive train also has a toilet and dining table that makes the trip more comfortable. This train has a short trip time reaching 2 hours long only. Ths is the best option for those of you who want to go to Semarang or Solo with low-budget.
The reappearance of the Banyubiru Train is the one that has been expected by passengers. After ten years, a train that only needs a two hours trip to reach the Solo-Semarang route is back again.
The Banyubiru Train has a legendary route. Some of the stations that it passed are more than one hundred years old! Such as Solo Balapan, Salem, Gundih Brumbung, and Semarang Tawang Station.
Not only that, This train is passing a special route. It is because the Banyubiru Train is passing the first rail line in Indonesia! That rail is built by the Dutch Indies train company.
