Information About Kertanegara Train
The Kertanegara Train is a train travel service that provides executive and economy plus classes. The service is operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to serve the travel route between Malang and Purwokerto across Central Java.
Starting operation on March 10, 2021, the train was introduced a month after the launch of the 2021 train journey chart. Kertanegara is derived from the last king of the Singosari Kingdom, Kertanegara, who ruled around 1268-1292.
The Kertanegara train route starts from Malang and arrives at Purwokerto, covering a distance of 559 km with an average travel time of 8 hours and 48 minutes. This train operates once per day.
Since March 10, 2021, the Kertanegara train has used a stainless steel train set made by PT INKA consisting of five executive trains, three premium economy trains, one dining train (M), and one generator train (P).
However, as of January 26, 2022, there was a change in the series to mild steel. The executive class uses trains made in 1968-2009, while the new economy class uses PT INKA’s 2016 series from the Depo Bandung Train, formerly serving the Argo Parahyangan.
Then, as of May 20, 2022, there was a change in the executive train series from the old 1968-2009 model to the new image executive train made by PT INKA in 2016-2017 belonging to the Malang Train Depo.
Class Availability of Kertanegara Train
The Kertanegara train offers two class options to its passengers:
1. Executive Class
The executive class on the Kertanegara train provides comparable premium facilities to other trains, including spacious seats, in-journey entertainment, foldable tables, and reading lights for nighttime travel.
Additionally, the executive class provides 50 seats arranged in a 2-2 format, allowing seats to be reclined and rotated to increase passenger comfort.
2. Economy Plus Class
As its name suggests, this train class is more economical than the executive class. However, this economy plus class has the latest arrangements in the economy category, such as the new image and premium economies.
This economy class has 80 seats arranged in a 2-2 layout, with 40 seats facing forward and 40 facing backward. Although most of the seats remained vertical, some of the new image economy plus ranges are equipped with reclining seats.
