Cherating is a famous beach town in Pahang, Malaysia. It is a beachfront area overlooking the South China Sea. Cherating is located about 50 km or 45 minutes from Kuantan city. Cherating Beach is a popular picnic area and is also the site of the world-famous Club Med Resort. Club Med Resort open its first resort in Asia in Cherating. Cherating has grown from a small town to a resort that has a famous beach and is a favourite among tourists. In Cherating too, you will see turtles lay here. Here there are also restaurants, lofty palms, beaches and the sea. You will get all the comfort and excitement while in Cherating. The first Mediterranean club in Asia is also located near Cherating. The Cherating Beach is also famous for surfing and is often the focus of Western tourists to come here. Cherating is also one of the most humid areas in Malaysia with receiving a large rainfall every year.
There are several ways for travellers to visit Cherating. You can take a flight, bus or drive your own vehicle to visit Cherating. The nearest airport to Cherating is Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport or also known as Kuantan Airport.
If you want to use a flight to come to Cherating, you can take a flight to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport. If you are coming to Kuala Lumpur, you can take a flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan. There are two airlines that fly from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan, namely AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines. The cheapest flight fare is given by AirAsia which is RM70 for one way. However, the flight fares depend on the date and time you want to fly. Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan will take about 50 minutes. When you arrive in Kuantan, you can take a taxi to Cherating. Travelling from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport to Cherating will take 43 minutes.
If you want to use the bus to Cherating either from or to Kuantan, you can use the available bus. RapidKuantan bus was introduced in 2015. The red-coloured bus is just like the bus in the metropolitan area of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. You can use the bus to travel between Kuantan and Cherating. If you arrive at Kuantan Express Bus Terminal at the Kuantan Central Terminal, you can take the RapidKuantan 303 bus that will take you to the City Bus Terminal or City Stop at RM2. From there, you can take the RapidKuantan 600 or 602 bus to Balok Makmur for RM4 and change the bus to RapidKuantan number 604 to Cherating at RM2.
If you come from or want to go to Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu, there are some express buses that take or drop passengers from or to Cherating. To get the bus in Cherating, you need to book a ticket first and the agent will notify the bus company to stop at Cherating for you. You will be given approximately half an hour after the bus departs from Kuantan and you will be told to wait for the bus at a certain place along the main road in Cherating. If you come from the North, you can tell the bus driver or assistant that you want to get off the bus in Cherating.
If you come from Kuala Lumpur and want to use the bus, you can take a bus at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Kemaman. You need to make sure your bus driver can drop you off in Cherating first. Upon entering the bus, you can request at the bus driver to drop you in Cherating. The bus fare from TBS to Kemaman is around RM28 to RM32. You can choose any buses available from TBS.
In addition, you can also drive your own vehicle to come to Cherating. If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur and via Jalan Duta Toll Plaza, you can follow the proposed route. From Jalan Duta toll plaza, take E8 to Jln Kuantan - Kemaman / Line 3 / AH18 at Balok. Take the exit to Kemaman from Bypass Gebeng. Join Jln Kuantan - Kemaman / Line 3 / AH18 before arriving in Cherating.
Turtle Sanctuary
This Turtle Sanctuary is located in the northern part of Cherating. It can be reached within a 30-minute walk. Admission to this sanctuary is free. However, they welcome your contribution or donation. Volunteer works can be made here but must be arranged 2 weeks earlier in their office in Kuantan. The sanctuary is located near the Club Med Resort. This sanctuary became a sanctuary for turtles and breeding of Leatherback tortoises. It is a threatened species. Their living rate is very low. In addition, this sanctuary has a showroom with information about turtles. Turtles are kept until they are three years old and will be released to the sea at night from June to September.
Cherating Beach
