This is the best middle range Resort in Pantai Timur. This my 2nd time here for holiday. Beside the boat fare a bit expensive(round trip 200/person), others no complain, there are really doing well.

Pulau Lang Tengah is located in the state of Terengganu, Malaysia. It is one of the many islands exists there. It is situated between Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang. However not many people visit this island due to its many corals and lesser beaches. However it is still a spot divers go to dive or is about to take their diving license.

The name ‘Lang Tengah’ derived from the many eagles in the area. Eagles are called ‘Helang’ in Malay. Also due to the location of the island which is in between Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang. Hence the name Lang Tengah was given.

Lang Tengah is around 45 minute’s boat ride from a jetty in Merang. Merang on the other hand is also around 45 minute’s drives north of Kuala Terengganu.

Lang Tengah is in the east coast state of Malaysia. Generally all the locals speak in Bahasa Melayu however they have their own dialect where It may be quite different than what is spoken in the other states of Malaysia.

How to Get There

By Plane

One may take a flight to Kuala Terengganu Airport from Kuala Lumpur. Then continue the journey via taxi or car to Merang to get to the jetty.

By Car

One may drive from Kuala Lumpur using the East Coast Expressway to get to Kuala Terengganu. It will take around 5 to six hours drive depending on the drive. Then another 45 minute’s drives or so is needed to reach Merang jetty.

Tourist Attractions

The whole island is dedicated to water activities. Since there are not many hotels here, therefore it has lesser visitors on the island. One may relax on the beach without being disturbed by other visitors. Along Summer Bay, one may snorkel around the area. There will be fishes such as barracudas, trigger fish, and schools of anchovies. If you snorkel at the wooden jetty in front of Sri Pacifica, you will definitely be able to see baby sharks swimming there. In Karang Nibong on the other hand have beautiful corals that grow naturally in the sea. If you swim a little further to Lang Sari beach, there will be big sharks swimming 40 – 50 meters away from the beach. There are also many diving spots suitable for divers.

One may canoe between beaches to get the best views of the whole island. Then one may catch the sunset at Batu Kuching if you want a different kind of activity. It includes a little jungle trekking to get to the peak. After getting a little hot, it is always nice to have a little dip in the sea and just swim to one’s heart content.

Summer Bay Resort’s Sunset Bar is available if one wants to spend the night socializing. However as many islands in the area, Lang Tengah is too a very chilled place. It also has a local restaurant the beachfront Mamak restaurant where it serves fish fritters. It is one of the most famous snacks in Malaysia.

Lang Tengah is not so much of a destination for backpackers. The resorts onsite are more on the higher range. Also it is very much advisable to book the accommodation beforehand as they offer better rates as a package with water activities.

Lang Tengah is best to visit between the month of March until October as the other months are closed for the monsoon season.
