Review from various users that have stayed in Bras Basah Complex will help you to choose the perfext hotel easily!
Room looks smaller than in photos. Room was clean but doesn't have a bidet.
The first room was very cold and remote control is out of order, the front desk transfer is to level 7, but couple quarreling in the middle of the night, making us couldn't sleep well,
Location is good cause its near Gate a MRT bencoolen station and 5 minutes waking to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. Bedroom was very small, not recommended for travelers with medium or large suitcase, almost no space to open your luggage. Bathroom was small and still manageable for average Asian people size. Bedroom and bathroom cleanliness not as we expected, unfortunately. Wall between room was “dry wall” and during our stay the next door neighbor was noisy and disturbing, played with his fingers knocking on the wall and almost all the time banged the door when they closed it! An unpleasant stay for us and luckily we only stayed there one night.
They upgraded my room which I really appreciate it, and they cleaned my room everyday and change the towel. The receptionist is very friendly.

Accommodation is perfect for couples that want to get a day off and relax. Hotel room was considerably clean and the concierge staff was very welcoming and friendly too. Some downside is security (lift is accessible for everyone with no need of room card and security was quite relax as there was no staff mending the counter during midnight) Otherwise, I will still be back again hehe.

The staff is very accommodating, the place is very accessible where you can buy food ride a bus and also near in attraction like Haji lane, Arab street and Bugis. Slightly near in MRT station, just a 10 minutes walk going station. This is the best hostel to stay.

The services are excellent, beyond my expectation. Staffs were very friendly and assisting me all with quick check-in. Room was great, very clean, and they even disinfected the pod. Bathroom also clean, which also include free shampoo and free body wash. Breakfast also delicious with some options can be chosen. Very recommended for individual or small group party

Mention Bras Basah Road to a Singaporean who lived through the 1970s and “books, stationery and printing services” are among the words which may spring to mind. Back then, the road which houses today’s Bras Basah Complex was identifiable with two rows of shophouses, famous for such services. It thrived as a popular haunt for students from nearby schools such as Raffles Institution, Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus and St Joseph’s Institution, drawn to the area for its affordable books and stationery.

Bras Basah Complex was known as shu cheng which is “City of Books” in Mandarin as the complex is famed for its numerous bookstores. It is also known as bai sheng lou in Mandarin. The complex consists of two blocks of 21-storey flats above a 4 & 5-storey office and shopping podium. It was built by the Housing and Development Board and was completed in 1979. It was home to many bookstores which used to operate at North Bridge Road and Bras Basah Road areas.

Today, it still serves as a one-stop centre for educational books and art materials. Bras Basah Complex was also a popular venue for Singapore xinyao singers to launch and promote their albums in the 1980s. Now, Bras Basah Complex receives a new stream of patrons from the students of neighbouring arts institutions. Together with the adjacent National Library, this building upholds the longstanding traditions of the street, operating as art and cultural hub for books, stationery, arts, crafts, and hobby supplies.

The building itself is a wondrous structure that has seamlessly fused the old with the new, enhancing the elegant neo-classical building with a new modernist extension of glass and metal. The museum hosts a dynamic range of events through the year—from art installations and festivals to performances and film screenings—in addition to presenting exhibitions involving historically and culturally important collections of artefacts. A selection of cafes and restaurants, as well as a retail space to pick up some souvenirs, round off a spectacular cultural offering.
