Orchard Road or also known as Orchard colloquially is located in the Central Region of Singapore, bordered by Newton from the east and north, Tanglin in the west, River Valley in the south and Museum in the southeast. The name Orchard originated far back in the 19th century, where this road once led to plantations or orchards of gambier, nutmegs, peppers and fruits. This road began to flourish in the 1860s when a great number of private houses and bungalows on the hills. Furthermore, the official residence and office of Singapore’s President called Istana is located at Orchard Road’s eastern end, while former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s house is at its south. Not forgotten, the lovely Botanic Gardens on the west of Orchard Road.

Travelling to and around Orchard is very easy. You can get access to the unlimited public transports available throughout the street. You can hop on to the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), an underground train, located in the Orchard vicinity. The nearby MRT stations are Orchard, Somerset and Dhoby Ghaut stations.
A bus lane was introduced in 2005 where buses operated for 24 hours. Buses company that make a tour to the boulevard area are SBS Transit, SMRT Buses, Tower Transit Singapore and Go-Ahead Singapore.
Scattering across the area, there are numerous taxi stands especially at shopping centres and hotels. You are not allowed to hail taxis other than at the official stands. Booking beforehand is extremely a lifesaver especially during rainy days, festive seasons and daily rush hours which begin from 6.00am to 9.30pm and from 6.00pm to midnight. But bearing in mind, that booking fees are applied. If you are from an MRT station, rest assured as they too offer SMRT taxis services.
